Sadhvi Bhagawati Saraswati: In Divine Service of God’s Grace

“The Best Way to Honor God is Our Lives is By Serving Humanity”

In over 20 years of living in Seva to renowned spiritual leader Pujya Swami Chidanand Sarasvati, American born author and world server Sadhvi Bhagawati Saraswati has devoted her life in service to her Guru and humanity. While traversing the globe, working on various humanitarian projects, Sadhvi often finds herself in myriad unique situations also in service to the Divine. Whether speaking at the UN on behalf of Climate Change or in the living room of Sting or supporting homeless children on the streets of Delhi, or running the annual International Yoga Festival, supporting the Global Interfaith WASH Alliance to bring clean water to third world countries , or hosting Prince Charles and his wife Camilla at their beautiful headquarters Parmath (perched on the banks of Mother Ganges) in Riskikesh; wherever she goes she is always by the side of her beloved Guru who she claims is as awed by Gods’ grace as others are of him.

OMTIMES: What first led you to India?

Sadhvi Bhagawati Sarasvati: The only thing that could have brought me to India is divine Grace. I wasn’t searching, on any conscious level. I had graduated from Stanford and was doing my PhD. I was actually quite happy and satisfied with my life; unaware that there was something else to search for! I came to India, logistically, because the person I was traveling with wanted to come. Being a very strict vegetarian, trying to have detailed conversations about things like broth, stock, and sauce in the U.S. and Europe is really difficult. Ultimately, as embarrassing simple as it is, nearly 20 years later, the only real reason I agreed, on a conscious level, to come to India was because I could eat without worrying about rice cooked in chicken broth, powdered fish seasoning in vegetable dishes, or eggs in my pasta.
