When Your Story Isn’t Working for You

your-story_OMTimes

What stories do you tell yourself about what you have to do to achieve your goals? When your story isn’t working for you, you can change the themes, change your story, and change your life in ways you might never have believed possible.

Change Powerful Energies by Changing Your Story…

The themes of our stories have energy that affects the way we think and feel about our experiences. A theme such as independence can lead to beliefs such as, “If it has to be done, I am going to have to do it myself.” That story of “I can’t count on anyone, so I have to do it alone” may not be working for you. Independence has its value, but the energy of that particular theme can cause you to overlook or reject opportunities to ask for and receive help. It shapes a story that isn’t working for you.

Similarly, a theme of persecution can result in a story such as, “No one appreciates me, and I have to sacrifice endlessly to get people to see that I am special and valuable.” When you live according to that story, you will often find yourself in situations where you feel unappreciated and taken for granted despite your hard work.

If you hope to change your story and receive more help and appreciation from others, it would be helpful to better understand how the themes of independence or persecution are affecting you and to find new ways to engage these archetypal energies. You can learn from them by dialoguing with them, using Jungian and shamanic techniques for bringing hidden information and energies into your conscious awareness.

You might set an intention to encounter the energy of independence and ask it questions such as, “What message do you have for me?” and “What changes do I need to make to have a better relationship with you?” You might need to change some habits you have not been aware of, and your unconscious mind may let you know this by showing you images that give you insights that help you see what you were overlooking. You may simply feel an inner knowing that you are standing in your own way. And you might encounter an inner figure that reminds you that you are strong and discerning, and do not have to fear asking for help and admitting that you are imperfect and, at times, in need of support.

What if this symbol of independence gave you the strength to be dependent at times, to risk criticism or rejection? What if you experienced its energy differently, and discovered you had the power to make wise choices about when to be independent and when to depend on others? What if you encountered the energy of persecution and let go of the belief that you will always be surrounded by people who will hurt you? What if the theme of persecution affected your story differently, allowing you observe that you hold the power to change the story of “I am always being taken advantage of and unappreciated?”

The themes that influence our stories are powerful energies, but we can trust ourselves to engage them and develop better relationships with them. When we do, our stories change at an energetic level, and making changes to our habits becomes far easier. We become the storytellers in our lives.
