Cruising Out of One’s Comfort Zone…

The concept of getting out of one’s comfort zone really came to light on a recent cruise. I was one of the many speakers, and each one of us had a topic to share such as; mediumship and the afterlife, the power of love and forgiveness, energy healing, astrology, psychic ability, sound healing, angels, medical intuition, yoga and so many more! The energy of the people, the speakers and of course the beautiful waters of the western Caribbean and port destinations just made the whole experience truly magical!

What I noticed on the cruise was that many people came with family; some came with friends who were of like-mind, while many others traveled and attended the conference by themselves. I asked: “What and why brought them on this cruise?” There were many reasons why people attended, from interest in certain speakers of a topic, a chance to get away on a learning vacation, while others that I asked came because they just felt they needed to attend. I applauded them all as I knew that some of the attendees had come by themselves, having never traveled alone, whereas some had never stepped on a plane or cruise ship, and others just simply knew they needed to do something different by breaking out of their comfort zone.

Experience of Learning Something New

At the end of the cruise, I heard from many people that not only did they enjoy the cruise, the weather and destinations, and the speakers and lectures, but they learned new tools to take back to their daily lives. Also, I’m happy to report that the (many) people who came by themselves found new friends that were of like-mind and will stay in contact with each other long after the cruise becomes a distant memory. You never know how one person, a group, or a new experience can change ones’ life!

Take a chance, trust synchronicity – it could be the one thing you do that sets the tone for the rest of your life!

John’s Lesson

Do something totally different that you’ve never done before. Break out of your day-to-day routine, and expand yourself beyond your comfort zone. No matter how safe it might feel to remain exactly where you are, it’s important to occasionally stretch yourself.

It could be a meditation or prayer group, salsa-dance lessons, a book club, an art class, or even a pottery workshop. Once, I took a cooking class at a local kitchen store just as a way of meeting some new people. Not only did I laugh a lot, but I also got to meet some really interesting, diverse people. I also had a great time and learned how to prepare a new dish!

I’m never going to be a gourmet chef, but that didn’t matter. If there’s a subject, class workshop, or hobby that you keep repeatedly saying to yourself: “I really want to do that!” or “I always wanted to try that!” Then trust that your intuition and soul are trying to encourage you to take that next step. If the thought keeps coming back, then I urge you to at least investigate the thing that’s sparking your interest.

Reaching Beyond Our Comfort Zone, We Find Friendship

So many people say, “But I hate going to those things alone!” or, “How will taking a class help me?” When I went to this cooking class, everyone came by themselves. It was a way of reaching out and bonding with others in a safe, fun, and educational environment. If you’re nervous about going somewhere alone, stop and say to yourself: “Wherever I go, there will be friends there.”

It really works and takes the edge off those feelings of nervousness. You never know what’s going to happen or whom you’re going to meet and become friends with. Once again, it’s a way of reaching out. At the very least, you’re taking the first steps in stepping forward in a whole new and hopefully exciting direction. Give it a try; you never know where breaking free from your comfort zone will take you.
