Meditation on a Spinach Pie
So if we are convinced that both spinach and OM are good for us and yet we can’t stand either, how do we find a solution by which we can enjoy life whilst still benefiting from spinach and the OM?
In 2004, when I first visited Cambridge, UK, to my amazement I discovered at the farmer’s market all sorts of different sorts of spinach. Right before me, were small leaf varieties all the way through to the larger dark green large leaves similar to chard. It was a quantum leap in my journey towards spinach enlightenment. Finally it dawned on me that, yes, there is another way of eating spinach, that cooking and consuming it could be enjoyable, even slightly alluring.
Like did you know there is a small leafy type called Savoy that you can just eat raw and throw into salads? It’s replaced potato chips for me!
Here’s an easy recipe for you: fry in a little olive oil, onion and garlic; when slightly brown, turn off the heat then throw in handfuls of the Savoy or similar spinach; cover with a lid for 1 or 2 minutes, then stir. Finally, pour to taste some soy and or chili sauce. Enjoy!
How can we do the same with the ‘OM’ what’s an easy palatable way to use it and benefit from it, dare I say even enjoy it?!
The question was a perplexing challenge when I first began composing the ‘The Silence of Peace’ Chakra series – how to give the OM sound without you, my listeners, feeling that you were trapped, listening to a long-winded session of ‘OM’ chanting?
The answer we can talk about another time.
For now I leave you with five easy tips to help you soak up the nutrition of ‘OM’ daily. So until next time, have a wonderful and tasty ‘OM’ day!
Incidentally, I finally ate the spinach pie in my Athens café. It was delicious.
5 Top ‘OM’ TIPS – How to get more OM in your diet
Here are 5 simple and easy things to do….
1. Make a list of all the words you can think of that have ‘OM’ in them. E.g. you could start with HOME… Then make sure you use them regularly in your speech.
2. Hum whilst your walking or doing chores…It doesn’t disturb anyone but gives you lots of OM!
3. Listen to music that plays the ‘OM’, for example the 7 Chakra Alphamusic CD’s on www.silenceofmusic.com
4. If you enjoy attending church or any other religious gathering of your choice, why not join in the prayers or singing – many liturgical pieces are based on one note, the fundamental note – the ‘OM’. If you prefer not to join in then be sure you sing ‘Amen’! It sounds quite similar to ‘AUM’, especially when sung, doesn’t it?
