Pet Talk: A Message to Heal Old Hurts from Yoda

After my column about Haley ran last month I received a very emotional email from Donna asking me to talk with her precious dog, Yoda who was with Spirit.  The message I received from Yoda was so compelling that I asked Donna if I could share her story.  She agreed and below is our correspondence.  If you have a question about your pet you too can email me at bmc@brendamcdonald.org….Naomi

Hi Naomi,

I just read your story on finding a missing dog and it deeply touched my heart as this has been a very emotional year for me! I’m an animal lover, especially Chihuahua’s. My husband and I live in primarily in Thailand but when we were back in the US on a visit we took our two little Chihuahua’s Yoda and Honey Bunny to be fixed at the vet as they are too tiny to breed.  About ten days afterwards Yoda, who was only 3 pounds got the runs in the middle of the night so we immediately took her to a pet hospital.  We had to leave her there as she had blood in her stool and the doctor wanted to hydrate her.  The next day we picked up Yoda and took her to our regular vet.  She read the notes from the hospital and asked us to come back in the afternoon.  We had not been gone for more than 5 minutes when the doctor called saying that my special Yoda had passed.  As I held her lifeless body I counted 12 needle holes in her neck from the hospital trying to get blood.  Needless to say through the shock and horror of this I don’t know really what happened. I suspect that after the trauma Yoda went through at the hospital bringing her to the vet’s office was too much for her heart to take and she just had to let go.

After we returned to Bangkok I really wanted another Chihuahua.  Even though there aren’t any dog shops there I knew that I would find a little girl to replace Yoda. Several days went by and we had no luck but one night as we were walking down the street there was a young Thai lady sitting having dinner with a Chihuahua on her lap. I ran over to her and asked where she found her dog? She gave me a number of a woman who I contacted the next day. When I saw all her dogs I zeroed in on one who reminded me so much of Yoda.  It wasn’t that they looked alike.  It was more like a knowing.  We clicked right away and the pain in my heart started to ease a bit as I knew I had found Yoda’s little spirit in Chloe. You probably think I’m crazy but I feel Yoda’s essence in her.  Is this possible?  I know that Yoda adored me so why did she choose to leave?  Could you give me a clue as to what happened to her?
