Voices from Inside and Out
The plan for Pros and Convicts Foundation is simple. In my opinion transitional homes, sober living homes or other similar homes barely work for parolees, if at all. My idea, why mix those who just got out of prison with the ones that are headed to prison? Instead mix them with professionals like students, actors, producers, musicians, writers, set builders, electricians and all kinds of others for a monkey see monkey do kind of atmosphere. When you put someone who’s been sober for 4 years in a house with a guy whose kicking heroin, well it’s only a matter of time isn’t it.
We currently house and help 3 cons with 8 pros, including myself a con turned pro (Soft smiles)
OmTimes: In this journey what were the biggest learning experiences you had?
Dillon: Love, love, love what you do! Or do what you love………..I’m still on this journey.
OmTimes : How can people get in contact with you and get involved in your work?
Dillon: It is Simple, just go to http://myprisonspace.org or com and sign up, and build you profile and start making or joining groups. Once you’re in a group post services that pertain to your group and you know are available for convicted felons. If you know someone in prison and want to put them on the site it’s free. Just create a profile for the inmate and connect it with your email, now you’re an inmate sponsor. Employers can post job openings for free as well and we show the same employers how to get certain tax incentives for hiring parolees under a year, works in every state and is good until 2012.
OmTimes: How would you define yourself nowadays?
Dillon: A Diligent soul
