Year in Review – Louise L. Hay
In 1985, Louise began her famous support group, “The Hayride,” with six men diagnosed with AIDS. By 1988, the group had grown to a weekly gathering of 800 people and had moved to an auditorium in West Hollywood. Once again, Louise had started a movement of love and support long before people began to wear red ribbons in their lapels. It was during this time that she wrote The AIDS Book: Creating a Positive Approach, based on her experiences with this powerful group.
“How does one put into words the effect Louise L. Hay has had on one’s life? To do the subject justice, a book the size of The Complete Works of Shakespeare wouldn’t be enough,” adds author Leon Nacson, who also heads up Hay House’s Australia office. “Louise has demonstrated that words have power, and that power should not be misused or abused.
“One of my earliest recollections of a mistake I made which I’ve never repeated is I said to Louise, ‘Why don’t we do this, and that way we’ll kill two birds with one stone?’ Louise replied, ‘Why would you want to kill two innocent, beautiful birds?’
In that moment I suddenly realized two things: 1: Louise really walks her talk and 2: She’s right. Why would I want to harm my favorite animals?”
Leading women’s health expert Dr. Christiane Northrup was also eager to share her experience: “I used to keep that book [You can Heal Your Life] hidden away in my desk drawer when I started my medical practice,” Dr. Northrup adds. “Though I’m well-trained in Western medicine, I knew that Louise (a high school dropout, no less) knew more about health and wellness than I did! From that time on, Louise has been a shining beacon of fun, hope, and health. Louise is a trailblazing goddess whose vision continues to uplift and inspire me—and millions of others—each and every day!”
Louise is the founder of Hay House, a successful publishing company. What began as a small venture in the living room of her home has turned into a prosperous corporation that has sold millions of books and other media worldwide. Hay House authors include many notables in the self-help movement, including Wayne Dyer, Joan Borysenko, and Doreen Virtue, among others. In addition, The Hay Foundation and the Louise L. Hay Charitable Fund are two non-profit organizations established by Louise that support many diverse organizations, including those dealing with AIDS, battered women, and other challenged individuals in our society.
In the later decades of her life, Louise has touched hundreds of thousands of lives with her groundbreaking wisdom and her generous heart. You can see this firsthand in You Can Heal Your Life: The Movie, which presents some of the most fascinating and memorable moments of Louise’s life.
