‘Thanks for the memories’…

Have you ever heard two or three people describe the same office situation, car accident, or movie? Each description will be told just a bit differently. Every individual sees life based on their own story. “It’s not what you’ve experienced, but how you’ve remembered it” addresses these differences. Some will see the glass as ‘half full’ while others will look at the same glass as ‘half empty.’ How have you warehoused the many stories of your life? Keeping in mind that these stories affect every choice you make today, have you ever thought about doing an inventory on your ‘life library’? Whatever the event, whatever the outcome, there was a lesson contained therein. Have you discovered just what that gift was yet? Perhaps, in review, you may wish to do some re-writes, using new eyes to look at the way you remember an experience, thereby allowing a fresh story and another reaction to evolve. Author, CEO and Co-founder of the Human Performance Institute, Dr. Jim Loehr talks about our narratives, “Stories make sense of chaos; they organize our many divergent experiences into a coherent thread; they shape our entire reality. And far too many of our stories are dysfunctional, in need of serious editing.” You have the power to create engaging, entertaining, positive tales about you – are you ready?

What do you have…?

Fourth on the list is, “It’s not what you’ve forged, but what you’ve allowed.” This refers to the fact that you have the power to teach people they way in which you want to be treated. By permitting others to behave in such a way that you are not being or honoring your Self, you are allowing life to take you in whatever direction others deem plausible. To receive respect from those around you, show that you honor yourself first and foremost. When that which you are sharing with others emanates from deep within yourself, shining genuine and pure, that is what shall come back to you. As you re-write your stories, you will begin to see that you have had countless reasons throughout your life to be profoundly grateful. Look at what you do have, rather than what you think is missing. Think about the many relationships in your life, what are you allowing? In what way can you look at what is already there and see it in a new light? This too is a part of your story.

Knock, knock…

Next to last, “it’s not who’s appeared, but who you’ve summoned.” This deals with coincidence. There is a theory that there is no such thing as coincidence. All that happens is planned, every phenomenon a part of your destiny. Should this be true, each person in your life, however great or small the role they play, has been attracted to you by you.
