Feng Shui for the Holiday Season
by Ken Lauher
The time to celebrate our gratitude for the abundance of the year is here. Here are some Feng Shui tips to decorate your home for holiday entertaining.
The holiday season is upon us. It’s true that many people get too wrapped up in the commercialism of Christmas. But it’s also a great time to re-connect with family and friends by hosting dinners and parties. Get-togethers don’t have to be about the gifts, or even the food, although you can even use Feng Shui when you create your menu for Thanksgiving, Christmas, or any other holiday feast.
Now’s a good time to use Feng Shui principles to make your home a safe, welcoming haven for guests, a place of lively, stimulating conversation, and a venue where lifetime memories will be formed.
Many people use this time of year as a good excuse to redecorate their home or apartment. But redecorating doesn’t have to be expensive. New pillows or throws, slipcovers, an area rug or a fresh coat of paint can work wonders on a room for a few hundred dollars or less.
In this article, we’ll explore how to use all five senses to create a pleasing experience for holiday guests from start to finish. We’ll also look at some of the main areas where you’ll be entertaining, as well as two of the most important areas of a home that contribute to a positive experience for both guests and residents.
Good Feng Shui Begins at the Entrance
The experience of the season should begin before guests even walk in the door. That doesn’t mean you have to make your home look like a 34th Street window display or create a light show so stunning you can see your home from space. Just make sure the path to your home and the entrance is well-lighted, open and inviting. This welcomes guests, as well as prosperity and abundance, into your home. Bells on the door will greet guests with a cheerful chime. Make sure nothing is blocking the path to your home. This video shares additional ways to Feng Shui your entrance for the holidays or anytime of year.
Before Dinner When guests arrive, they will be greeted by the aroma of comfort foods. Offer them a beverage and snacks, such as an arrangement of nuts and other seasonal treats. Create color balance in your display of food to enhance guests’ appetites. For instance, serve beige or off-white foods in brightly-colored, festive bowls, and arrange a vegetable tray with an assortment of peppers, broccoli, cauliflower, carrots and celery to present a range of colors.
