Feng Shui Plants For the Season

How the life energy of plants can enhance the chi in your home — this winter and year-round.

It’s the time of year when many people of the Christian faith place an evergreen tree in their living room or other family center of activity in their home. A Christmas tree is yang energy, adding to the hustle and bustle (and sometimes the stress!) of the holiday season.   But carefully placed plants and greenery of any type can have a myriad of Feng Shui benefits to balance the chi of a home or apartment and help you achieve your goals.

The Benefits of Plants As living things, plants infuse a space with life chi, always a positive thing in your home. Plants also have the practical benefits of adding oxygen to the air and absorbing carbon dioxide to create a healthier indoor atmosphere. They can add warmth to a room, and be used to energize a specific section of the Feng Shui Ba Gua for greater fortune in that area of your life. Plants in the wealth or career trigrams of the Ba Gua are especially beneficial, and bamboo stalks on a desk can liven up any workspace and bring greater career success.

I often recommend plants during my Feng Shui consultations, http://www.kenlauher.com/consulting-services, because they are: – Inexpensive – Long-lasting – Easy to fit into almost any space or home’s decor – A beautiful, living touch to make a space feel like a home

Keep in mind, it’s always best, when possible, to use live plants. But if your home is not conducive to keeping plants alive (for instance, you live in a basement apartment without much natural light) or you just don’t have a green thumb, realistic-looking silk plants can also be used in many Feng Shui remedies. Dead plants are bad Feng Shui so if you consistently kill plants, use silk substitutes, instead. Likewise with fresh cut flowers — replace the flowers as soon as they start looking wilted.

Let’s take a look at all the things plants can do for the Feng Shui in your home, apartment, office or cubicle.

Energize a section of the Ba Gua When we energize or “empower” a trigram of the Ba Gua in Feng Shui, we are setting a strong intention and putting a thought out to the Universe that we want greater positive focus in that area of our life. For instance, if you’re in search of a mentor for your career, you may want to empower the “helpful people” trigram. Looking to attract a mate? Activate your romance corner. (I shared helpful tips on how to use Feng Shui to find love http://omtimes.com/2010/06/feng-shui-love in the June 2010 issue of OmTimes.)
