Random Act of Kindness Award March 2011
Hi, my name is Lily Phillips, and I’m almost 8 years old.
One day at school, we had a presentation about a lady who helps in our school who has cancer. I felt sort of bad for her because she is a really good friend to everyone, and she helps the school a lot. It was sad for me to see that such a nice person has to have pain, and lose her hair because of this illness.
Her two daughters gave a presentation about a program called ‘Beautiful Lengths’ in class one day. They said that the program takes donations of cut hair to make wigs for people who lose their hair because of having chemotherapy treatments.
At first, my mom said no; but after awhile she thought about it and she said, ‘how can I tell you not to do this?’ and she also said, ‘if this is what you really want to do, then you should’.
On February 23rd, 2011, I cut my long hair for Cancer. I feel good inside and I know it was the right thing to do.
I sort of miss my hair but it’s worth it to help others who can’t grow their own hair. I’m glad that other girls in my school are participating in this good deed to help others, too.
With Love, Light & Healing for Mrs. Bitz,
Lily Phillips
