A Coping with Change Strategy: Share Yourself

by Gordon Rosenberg

Learn to share yourself with others. When you share your gifts with others, when you give back to this world, you learn about yourself. No one is an island unto oneself; we are part of give-and-take of universal energy flowing through all of us. Blocking this energy inside us causes stress; letting it flow more freely alleviates stress.

The most beneficial thing we can do for ourselves in these stressful and changing times is learn how to give away the talents and gifts that we’re given by our Universe. By doing so, we free up trapped energy in our body and we receive in return more good energy of one kind or another. We’re energetic beings who thrive when life force energy is flowing freely through us. We deteriorate when energy is stagnant in us. Giving to others frees up our energy, thereby releasing stress and tension we hold in our body.

When you know in your heart its right to give what you’re giving, and that it may truly serve another, you will benefit from giving it. You must learn to trust yourself to know when such giving is appropriate.

Sharing with others this way does not deplete your own energy, it actually returns several times over. I’m talking about giving your greatest gifts, the wonderful things you know how to do and may until now have been afraid to give away, or had put certain conditions on the giving. It means that to free up your trapped energy, you must give people the love you have to give, the skills you have to share, the positive energy you have to offer. It means to give all that’s in your power to give to those you know, and likely to some people you don’t know as well.

People generally fail to give of themselves because they’re afraid. They may think they don’t have enough to give; that they’ll somehow shortchange themselves if they give their skills away. But nothing could be further from universal truth! We’re not supposed to hold onto our talents.

We’re not supposed to horde what we have, in the fear that there won’t be enough. We’re supposed to trust the universe to give us what we need. We’re supposed to give everything we have to give without worrying about lacking anything in the future. When we do this, we set the stage for the universe to give back everything it has to share with us!

If we believe we won’t receive what we need from our universe, it’s likely that we’ve learned somehow that we don’t deserve it. Someone or something has taught us that we won’t or can’t have what we want. Since our beliefs pretty much determine our reality, if you have this belief you probably won’t receive much from the world. We must let go of such beliefs if we’re to have all we want. We must practice receiving what we need, and we must practice giving to others through us. One of the benefits of this practice will be the release of pent up tension and stress in the body.
