Feng Shui Romance for the Holidays

Break old patterns this season and use Feng Shui in your home and life to find the ultimate romance — and have fun doing it!

by Ken Lauher

‘Tis the season…

For office holiday parties, friendly get-togethers, and charity fundraisers that may put you in a room with hundreds of people you’ve never met along with many friends and colleagues. If you’re single and looking for romance, the holidays can be one of the loneliest times of the year. Or it can be one of your best opportunities to meet other people and make a love connection. It all depends on your perspective.

Follow these Feng Shui tips for yourself and your home to shift your perspective this holiday season and use social activities as a way to attract and connect with people who have potential to become your soul mate.

Make Your Home a House Filled With Love This Holiday Season

As you see if you’ve been reading my blog or my column here in OmTimes, your home reveals stories about your life. Feng Shui is not a form of divination that can predict your future or reveal your past. By evaluating the flow of chi in your home, you’ll gain insight into where you are right now, today. And if you don’t like where you are — maybe you’re still single and want to find romance — you can adjust the energy around you so it better matches your desires.

For instance, I recently gave a New York City Feng Shui consultation for a single woman who’s been looking for romance. But her home is filled with icons of single-ness; for instance, a large poster of Greta Garbo, who remained single her whole life and was even rumored to proclaim, “I want to be alone,” hangs in the dining room.

But your home may even send out more subtle signals that you are not welcoming a relationship, or perhaps even visitors or guests for the holidays. Let’s look at some of the ways you can open your home — and your heart — to romance this winter.

Unblock Your Entryway

Winter often presents a unique problem if people choose to hang coat racks behind the front door. This can be okay in the spring but when cold weather sets in, heavy coats, hats and scarves can prevent the door from opening a full 90 degrees. This blocks opportunities — including the opportunity to find a soul mate — from entering your life.

If you re-arrange furniture to decorate for the holidays or to accommodate a Christmas tree, make sure you haven’t blocked your front entrance, cluttered your foyer, or blocked the pathway from your front entrance through the rest of your house. Ideally, a Christmas tree or other holiday decorations will go in a place that won’t require extensive furniture re-arrangement, especially if the chi flows well in your home throughout the rest of the year.

Decorate in Twos

As you decorate for the season, keep a sense of balance, and pairing, in mind by placing items in twos. If you over-do this, you may find your decorating to look too formal. But consider placing plants, candles or other decorations in pairs in the romance trigram of the Ba-Gua of your home and other key rooms. When we activate a trigram of the Ba Gua in more than one room, this is called “layering the Ba Gua” and it can have extremely powerful effects when you place your intention behind the action.

Give Positive Energy and Romance Room to Flow

Even in tight spaces — sometimes especially in tight spaces — we are tempted to use every corner of a home for storage or to add decorative elements. But just because we have a space doesn’t mean we must fill it. Empty spaces that permit a healthy flow of chi help improve your outlook and fill your home with positive energy.

Allow space for chi to circulate and you’ll be able to breathe easier too. You’ll feel more relaxed and stress will melt away. The better you feel, the more confident you are; you’ll find yourself attracting love and fun-loving people nearly effortlessly.

Feng Shui outside the Home to Find Romance

Now that you’ve used Feng Shui in your home to raise your confidence and reduce your stress levels, it’s time to think about Feng Shui steps you can take to find romance when you hit those parties and holiday gatherings. Here are some tips you can use at the very next get-together.

1. Look and feel your best.

Feeling your best may also mean taking time to meditate and get grounded before the party.

2. Practice your introduction, along with those first few sentences you use to describe yourself to others. Think about how you do identify yourself. Perhaps you think of yourself in terms of your career, and that’s fine if you’re doing what you love. But is there another fact you’d like people to know about you first? What’s your true passion and life purpose? Lead with that when you meet someone new, let your true self shine, and your new friends will be sure to remember.

3. Break old patterns. In addition to re-vamping your personal mission statement or introduction, think about how you usually act at parties. Are you the one by the buffet table doing everything you can to avoid interaction? Do you find a close friend at the beginning of the evening and stick with them the whole night? Maybe you sit by the bar and wait for interesting people to come to you.

Whatever you usually do at parties, evaluate whether it’s worked for you in the past. If not — you’re still single, still looking for romance — and then consider breaking this pattern. This means stretching out of your comfort zone, but you’ll increase your chances of meeting new people. Rather than keeping your world the same size or watching it slowly shrink, you’re increasing your reach. This accomplishes several things. You’ll learn something about yourself that you can bring home with you that night and use in other social interactions in the future. You’ll see what it feels like to try something new — and realize that you lived through the experience! Finally, if you’re typically a wall-flower type, you’ll probably have more fun as you stretch outside your comfort zone to meet new people. Even if you don’t meet a potential life partner, find romance, or even any romantic prospects, you’ll have found enjoyment and fun by doing something different for the evening.

When we engage in activities we ultimately enjoy, we are creating positive energy around us and, every experience like that brings us closer to finding true love.
