An Unexpected Gift

Today – I took a break
From a slow work day
I found a creek formed
By winter run off
From the mountains

High above in a cottonwood tree
Sat two hawks
With their nest
I was not a threat to them,
They soared away

While smaller birds
Flew into their tree
Water running below,
Sunlight was shining on it
The break was short

But the universe
Gave me a gift
Never to be repeated
In exactly the same way
And I am so thankful for this
