The Astrology of 2012

There has been much hype, speculation and misunderstanding about the significance of the Mayan calendar ‘end date’ – December 21st 2012. This date marks a rare event in a vast astronomical cycle, when the December solstice Sun will appear to emerge from the centre of the Galactic Equator. This results from the natural cycle of ‘precession’- as Earth spins on its axis, it slowly ‘wobbles’ like a gyroscope or spinning top, taking 25,626 years to complete one cycle; this produces very gradual changes in Earth’s orientation, relative to the stars.
Precession gradually alters which stars align with Earth’s North and South rotational poles; it also causes the Equinox Sun to slowly shift its position, relative to the zodiac constellations, giving rise to the changing of the Ages – from Aries to Pisces, Pisces to Aquarius etc.

Galactic Rebirth
Every Winter Solstice is a time of spiritual rebirth, when the Sun emerges from the deepest part of its cycle, having been hidden beneath the Earth for increasingly longer periods, since Autumn Equinox. Finally, on December 21st the Sun is ‘re-born’, the days begin to lengthen, and the light returns to our daily lives. This is why this time was chosen to mark the birth of Christ, manifesting Divine light into human consciousness.
The December 2012 Solstice marks a Galactic Rebirth, as the Sun appears to emerge from the Galactic Centre, perceived by the Maya as the ‘Womb of Creation’. Thus begins a new 25,626 year cycle. In the final months leading up to this momentous cosmic event, it is crucial to release old patterns, attitudes and attachments, which have hindered us from experiencing the pure light of Spirit, throughout the millennia.
For several years we have been witnessing the breakdown of systems and institutions that are motivated by greed, self-interest, personal power and denial of the Spirit. As we approach December 2012, we are reaching a point of no return. The old paradigms and archetypes which have sustained us for the last 5,125 years are quite literally dying within our consciousness. This is making way for a new paradigm of heart-centred awareness that balances the masculine and the feminine, expressed as Unconditional Love. Our only choice is whether to move with these changes, or resist them by clinging on to negative attachments and fears from the past.
If we graciously surrender to the new impulse for heart-centred consciousness, then our journey will be so much easier; if we resist, maintaining ego-centred positions of power, fear, manipulation and control, then life will become increasingly challenging. If we could comprehend the vast tidal wave of consciousness in which we are moving, then we would understand that ‘resistance is futile’, like building a sand-castle to protect us from a spiritual tsunami!
Two Solar Eclipses
Solar Eclipses in May and November 2012, both over the Pacific Ocean, are crucial turning points that will help accelerate our transition into the new consciousness.
Eclipses occur when Sun and Moon conjunct the Moon’s North or South Nodes. South Node Eclipses release outmoded patterns, attitudes and archetypes; North Node Eclipses create space for new patterns to take root within collective consciousness.
The South Node May Eclipse will enable the release of layers of ancient ‘energy imprints’ that have occurred since humanity’s first immersion into matter. The North Node November Eclipse will bring the final release that will allow in the new energies.
These Eclipses are significant for everyone, bringing opportunities to release the collective grief for our loss of deep spiritual knowing of our Oneness with Mother Earth and all of Creation. The indigenous peoples of the Pacific have maintained an unbroken memory-thread of our Oneness with Mother Earth, carrying this ancient wisdom within the Kahuna traditions of Hawaii, and the Maori and Waitaha traditions of New Zealand, amongst others.
Solar Annular Eclipse – 20th May 2012
Annular eclipses occur when the Moon is at a distance from the Earth, such that it does not completely obscure the Sun, but leaves a ring of light around the Moon. The Shadow does not touch the Earth, but remains in the atmosphere, affecting us mostly at the mental and spiritual levels.
This Eclipse passes over the financial centres of the Far East – Hong Kong and Tokyo. Arcing over the Aleutian Islands at Maximum Eclipse, it makes landfall in California, north of the San Andreas Fault, then passes over Mount Shasta, crossing Nevada, Utah, New Mexico, and ends over Texas.
The mental-spiritual focus of this Eclipse makes it unlikely to trigger any major physical catastrophes; rather, it will trigger a radical shake-up in the thinking behind the global economy, and in our approach to environmental challenges.
The Eclipse takes on added significance, as Sun and Moon are conjunct the Pleiades. This cluster of stars has been prominent in world mythology, throughout the Ages. To the Maya, the Pleiades represent the handful of maize seeds from which the original humans were born. They are symbolically re-planted in the Earth at the beginning of each new ‘Sun’ cycle of 5,125¼ years. (Five Sun cycles make one 25,626-year precessional cycle). The Eclipse marks the release of the ‘thought-forms’ and archetypes of the last 5,125¼ years, with the Pleiades poised to ‘plant the maize seeds’ and birth the new cycle.
The more we can release emotional attachments and ideologies that have held us back from experiencing our full connection with the Oneness of all life, the easier it will be to stand in our spiritual power and create Right Relations in the world.
Total Solar Eclipse – 13th November 2012
This Eclipse in southern Pacific mirrors the May Eclipse. Being a Total Eclipse, the shadow does touch the Earth’s surface. Its astrological pattern resembles a Kite, with its head open like a flower to receive new frequencies from Mars, Pluto and Juno.
Mars is conjunct the Galactic Centre, aligning our personal will with our spiritual will (Pluto), enabling us to be in Right Relationship (Juno) with the Universe. Grounding and balancing these powerful energies, at the tail of the Kite are Ceres, Vesta and Jupiter. Ceres in Cancer challenges us to release emotional resistance to manifesting our spiritual will. Vesta in Gemini challenges us to relate to others in ways that honour the truth within our own hearts. Jupiter challenges us to release dualistic belief systems of ‘this is true’, or ‘that is true’; if we are in Right Relationship with ourselves, others and the world, then both ‘this and that are true’. This means honouring our own perceptions of truth as well as the truths of others.
At the ‘wings’ of the kite are Venus, on one side and Chiron–Neptune, on the other. Venus holds the pattern in harmonious balance; Chiron and Neptune bring the healing potentials of Unconditional Love into our day-to-day lives.
The Sun, Moon and North Node in Scorpio bring commitment and self-discipline to confront our deepest emotional fears, so that we can understand the best ways to move forward. The key is that it is time for us to take full responsibility for our own future, realising that our beliefs, attitudes and deeply held inner patterns create the circumstances of our lives – we literally create our own reality.
The outcome of these Eclipses will be to remove barriers and veils that have existed within consciousness since time immemorial, enabling us to live at one with ourselves, the Earth and the Universe.
