You can use a pendulum to connect with your body’s energy to aid you in making the right decision.

Using a Pendulum for Guidance

By Victoria Pendragon

Almost everyone knows what a pendulum is: a heavy body suspended from a thin span of some sort. Pendulums have many purposes including keeping certain types of clocks moving. On a more personal scale, pendulums of various sorts, from a button tied on a string to a crystal suspended from a silver chain, are used to help people with the decision making process.

A hand-held pendulum acts as an extension of your body’s energy and since your body knows everything there is to know about you, the wise use of a pendulum is something that you can rely on when you are too emotionally involved or under too much stress to make a good decision. Ideally, your intuition is always there with the right answer but we can’t always operate under ideal conditions. In such circumstances, it is nice to know that you have a tool you can rely on and you can rely on it precisely because it functions as an indicator of your body intelligence.

Your body’s main concern in life is your survival. It knows better than any other easily accessible aspect of yourself – your mind, for instance – what will work well for you and what won’t. That said, the way in which most people are taught to use a pendulum does not make use of the body’s intelligence to the fullest and leaves a great deal of room for the mind to interfere with results since most people are taught to rely on the simple ‘yes’ or ‘no’ swing of the dangling oracle. But a mind can alter the swing of a pendulum by adjusting the position of the delicate finger-hold ever so slightly, creating an answer that suits the needs of the ever-active ego process, a part of the consciousness that receives most of its direction from the child inside you that is more concerned with getting its emotional needs met than with the big picture of which you are a part.

There is a better way. But let’s first establish where that ‘yes’ and ‘no’ swing comes from. Some folks simply tell the pendulum what they want from it, for instance: “Swing in a clockwise circle for ‘yes’ and counterclockwise for ‘no.’” That approach feels wrong to me as it deprives the body of its chance to express its own tendencies and proclivities. I prefer asking the body to show, as you hold the lead gently, what its ‘yes’ swing is, then what its ‘no’ swing is.

If nothing happens when you ask the pendulum to show you its swing, then you are simply not ready to use such a device. Something within you – most likely your ego process – is not ready to give up control.

There are possible variations on yes/no pendulum swings. Swings can be circular or linear. The important thing is that they are what they are and that anything outside of their ‘program’ is recognized as not useful except perhaps in the context of “It’s not time to ask this.”

The next part of the use of the blind pendulum is the ‘blind’ part. You’ll need to create a series of cards on heavy stock paper which you cannot see through; half of the cards will say “yes,” half will say “no.” A small stack of identical business cards works especially well as the print on the front helps to obfuscate the words on the back. These cards are what will place distance between mind and your body’s intelligence.

To put the pendulum to work you must first make a statement about the issue for which you are seeking clarity. Do not ask the pendulum a question; the body responds better to a clear and strong statement. This is because a statement is about one very specific thing while a question tends to imply possible unexplained variations.  Saying something like “A trip to the shore will make me feel happy,” or “The car I saw yesterday is a practical financial investment for me,” remove ambiguity. Do not make statements about more than one thing. For instance, if the aforementioned shore trip was for your physical health as well as your mental state, you would have to make two statements, one for ‘happy,’ and another for ‘healthy.’  Making positive statements allows your body to respond to your intentions; negatives do not exist for the body consciousness.

Spread your stack of cards in front of you, pull one card, keeping it face down, hold your pendulum over the card while you make or think the statement and allow the pendulum to swing. A yes swing indicates that the answer on the card it is swinging over is correct; a no swing indicates that the answer on the card is incorrect and may also indicate that there is some confusion about your intention.

No swing on a Yes card = No

An odd or unidentified swing may mean many things. It would probably be best for you to try again later or to revisit your statement and/or check the cards to ensure that something foreign hasn’t gotten mixed in by chance. It happens!

This simple system is remarkably accurate but can only be applied for decision-making processes.  Any attempt at fortune telling will lead you down the path of the ego and yield less than desirable results. Your body, an animal creation, knows only its now moment. Your body knows only you and cannot be expected to give reliable information about others.  Statements such as, “My book will be published by LazyDaze Publishers,” are just so much nonsense to your body unless you happen to own LazyDaze Publishers.

So should you find yourself stuck between a rock and a hard place, scoop up a small stone and make yourself a pendulum. It’s an excellent fallback when your intuition is feeling compromised.
