4 Tips to Help with Loss of a Loved One this Holiday Season

By Carole J. Obley

Because the holiday season sparks remembrance of our ties with family and friends, it can be a particularly difficult time for people who have recently lost loved ones.

These simple guidelines can help dissipate loneliness, grief and fear that can dampen the joy of holidays:

Do whatever is necessary– meditation, prayer, yoga- to make a connection with your Higher Self. In my experience, those who use these spiritual tools move through grief with much greater ease than those who don’t.

Express gratitude for the memories you retain of your relationship with those loved ones.

Write about the positive qualities they brought to you during life. Think of this exercise as writing a love letter to the person in spirit. A good question to spark your writing is to ask,” If my loved one were sitting across from me now, what would I want to say to him?”

Last, take comfort in the familiarity of your family traditions– despite the physical absence of loved ones. The number one message I’ve delivered during readings is that those in spirit we knew and loved want us to continue on with our lives.
