Silent as the Deer

Silent as the Deer

by Cori Savenelli

So many of us marvel at the outgoing and sometimes overwhelming personality of extroverted individuals. These are the people who can comfortably dominate a conversation seemingly carefree in the face of how they may be perceived. They have no problem speaking in front of groups, having an “audience” or simply letting their voice carry high and mightier that anyone in the crowd.

We seek to have the whimsical nature that allows for this unihibited address of a room full of strangers. We cower in corners, and mingle with people whose like energy makes us feel comfortable and safe. We wonder in awe whether their flamboyance is a representation of confidence or an attempt to find balance in an uncomfortable situation.

Either way, there is always inevitably a person in the room who dominates, pulls people together and creates a very obvious strong energy circle. These people are usually instantly liked because they give an air of lightheartedness and control, which in many social situations, we who are so easily shy, greatly appreciate. Still it leaves us wondering, ‘how do they do it’?

Although we shy violets may envy this ability and mistakenly believe that it is this trait that separates success from failure, having ushered us cozily in the background, there is a graceful majesty in the innocence of being unassuming.

We each have a character, a spirit that separates us from others. So often we forget that there are so many ways to exchange and share energy. A quiet volunteer at an animal shelter can speak more loudly in the heart of the universe than 100 loud speeches. A nurse, caring for a dying man sings louder than a church choir. A simple woman donating time to a disaster relief, screams to the karmic energy. A mother, giving up everything to save a failing child creates a symphony in the pathways of the universe. A writer tucked away in a little room sharing words of comfort to others, silently helps with the spiritual, emotional and/or physical evolution of human beings. A friend, comforting another in the face of a loss, is comforting all.

So remember, you do not have to be loud to be heard. Just as the deer in its’ quiet beauty will stop a man in his tracks, you, in your innocence and giving nature, are moving mountains.
