Tony Burroughs: The Art of Intending
The “Intenders” is your incredible project that brought to everyone, everywhere the realization of the powers of directed intentions and how we can change realities together.
How did it come about and what are the next steps for this project?
The Intenders started in 1994 outside Pahoa, Hawaii with me and my 3 friends, Tina, Mark and Betsy, sitting around a circular table on Betsy’s back porch, asking each other how we could help one another in our lives. The word “Intention” popped up, and Tina got a dictionary and looked it up and it said that an intention was “a moving toward.” So we realized that when we’re making an intention we are actually moving toward that which we desire. Accordingly, we started saying our Intentions into our little Circle of 4 – and, lo and behold, they started manifesting right away for us! Cars, work, money, opportunities – everything we needed just came to us. As a result, we kept meeting together every Sunday evening to share food and say our Gratitudes and Intentions (almost immediately we discovered that gratitude is a key to our personal empowerment; and that the stating of our Gratitudes prior to stating our Intentions to the group was an acknowledgment that the Intentions we made the week or two before had manifested for us.) Expressing our gratitude showed everyone, ourselves included, that the Intention Process (that’s what we called it) was working.
Over the next year, we refined the Intenders Circle format and 5 more friends joined us. So, at the end of the first year, there were 9 of us meeting each week together. Then one night, 35 people showed up! Our Intenders Circle continued to grow and soon a second Circle sprouted up on the other side of the Big Island. Shortly after that, I was guided to leave my beautiful Hawaiian home and go to the west coast of the mainland to present mini-workshops in the San Francisco Bay Area. Long story short, within a year there were 17 Intenders Circles in the Bay Area and it flashed across the country from there. Currently, there are Intenders Circles in countries all over the world, and I must tell you that the 4 of us who started The Intenders are as in awe of what happened as anyone because we’re just 4 everyday people whose very first Intention was to help each other.
