Dream Visitation

By Meredith Smith

It is time to give a voice to those who are gifted with a dream visitation from the newly dead. These dreamers are emerging out of their own silence to share experiences about their dreams of earthbound ghosts and those effervescent spirits who they see lingering between the 3rd & 4th astral planes, resembling flashes of particles of light appearing and disappearing before their eyes. Over the past few years, dreamers are awakening in their dreams to the conversations they are sharing with the recently departed. Those who recall their dreams are finding that they are capable of bringing back upon waking, knowledge from these encounters that contains much-needed information about the physical realm, those we know, about ourselves, the afterlife, and images of all the realms in-between.

Dreamers, or night travelers, have the ability each night to return back to these dimensional realms, recognizable to our souls, to retrieve information from those who are deceased and reside on the other side. These amazing nightly travels happen to everyone who lay down their head to rest.  However, some people have a difficult time recalling their chance meetings with the dead.

Dreamers who are unable to recall their dreams upon waking, may not be allowing themselves to receive these messages –somewhere within them lays a blockage from their past or present, and with this, they remove belief of the possibility that they too greet the dead during the dream time. It is easy to disregard visitations as a visit from a spirit, preferring to view them just as a symbolic representation of a particular aspect of oneself – although this can be a true interpretation to explore, more often when the dead appears a dreamer is experiencing a visitation from a guide, a spirit, and or a deceased loved one. Why do people receive dream visitations from the dead, both familiar and unfamiliar?

Dream visitation appears for one or two reasons:

1. Someone the dreamer knows (family, friend, loved one, or distant familiar person) who recently died is a soul who just past and he/she needs the dreamer’s guidance in the transition from physical to soulful, and a feeling of reassurance of their physical death.

2. The dreamer is in need of guidance, protection, comfort — a spirit, familiar or unfamiliar, will appear with a message, or love and warmth, for the dreamer, whether the dreamer realized he/she requested assistance or not.

The beauty of these types of dreams is they offer messages and comfort in the time of most need, either for the dreamer or the person who has passed on from their physical form. There is solace in knowing that when a dreamer lacks guidance, nourishment, or tenderness it is possible to subconsciously call on a deceased loved one asking them to appear to provide assistance, light, and warmth to the dreamer.

Occasionally the dead will make a dream visitation unexpectedly and for reasons that may seem unclear at first. Some spirits will convey a message, support, or guidance clearly for the dreamer; other times spirits create a mystical puzzle for the dreamer to piece together over a course of several visits to the dream time in order to translate the message communicated. If aware that the deceased have the ability to appear in dream time, then a dreamer becomes more naturally prepared to observe ways to receive and decode the messages given. With this simple knowledge of awareness and acceptance, a dreamer enhances their own abilities to remain aware and available to those spirits that appear needing assistance from the dreamer.

What Our Earthbound Spirits and Why are They Still Here?

Earthbound spirits, or ghosts, are those who have died but remain, haunting or lingering, in either the location where they died or attach themselves to loved ones who they left behind. Some earthbound spirits are known to attach themselves to a material item that connects them to their once physical life, unable to let go of, and it is their stagnate energies imprinted on the object that illuminates their lower vibrational presence. These are the dead who linger between the 3rd and 4th dimensions, losing their way to the afterlife.

Many earthbound spirits remain present because they are still attached to the physical realm:

1. They need to have a resolution from something or from someone in their recent physical life.

2. They are looking for forgiveness before they feel they are allowed to move on.

3. They are so bound to their material life (which they are unable to bring with them into the afterlife).

No matter the reason, earthbound spirits are unable to let go in order to move forward into the boundlessness of the afterlife. It is important to note here that earthbound spirits are different from spirits who have passed onto the afterlife.

Those spirits who have passed on but return in a dream visitation do so because:

1. They may have a message to offer you.

2. They want to show you that there is life after death.

3. Some souls do return as dreamer’s spirit guides.

To note the differences: Spirits who return after crossing over in the afterlife hold a beautiful radiant high vibrational frequency filled with an energetic field of love and light surrounding them and within them. Earthbound spirits usually have a low vibrational frequency and leave imprints of their energies behind to attach to people, places, and things. Many of these earthbound spirits become ghosts of the past feeding off the energies of people, homes, and locations to survive in spirit and not fade into an energetic imprint.

A dreamer will know what type of spirit has arrived in their dream world by the way they feel in the presence of the spirit in their dream. If the dreamer feels filled with a comfort, a luminous light, no anxiety, and a feeling of peace they are in the presence of a higher vibrational spirit who has crossed and returned. If the dreamer feels low, some anxiety, uncomfortable, fear, cautious, with a sense of dark or dim light hovering then the dreamer has encountered an earthbound spirit. No need to be afraid, it is important for the dreamer to remain in their own positive vibrational frequency and say “You are not invited in my space. Please leave my energetic field. I send you off with love and light. Thank you.”

As long as the dreamer remains in control, has no fear, and does not give their power or energy away to the earthbound spirit no attachment will take place. Most spirits that are stuck and lingering between realms are lost and looking for help to move forward. They are in need of some type of assistance.

Dream Advice: If the dead come calling in your dreams, greet them from a place of love rather than feeling fear within their presence. Ask them why they have appeared. Be prepared to receive a message or to offer assistance. Remain calm and open to what they have to say or show you.

There is a possibility that when the dead come calling they are a symbolic image representing a facet of the dreamer:

Spirits appearing in a dream may symbolize an aspect of the dreamer. They may appear representing a hidden element of the dreamer that has been lost or forgotten and are now needed to merge back with the dreamer for their own personal growth and healing. The dead may also appear to be a symbolic representation of undiscovered powers offering the dreamer creativity and inspiration.

Dream Advice: Lean closer into your dream and take a look at the traits this spirit encompasses. Next connect the dots on how these attributes can feed your body, mind, and soul in your waking life.

A Deceased / Loved One Returning symbolize the dreamer’s desires to re-connect with the qualities this someone represents to the dreamer — a need for comfort and strength from the person who has passed. A deceased loved one may also illuminate a memory of the past or provide an offering from the future for the dreamer to heal within the present.

  • Wow, this happened to me often. Especially when a loved when one was newly deceased. My father was in my dreams for up to a year after he passed and every night I had a dream my sister would as well. I have not really talked about it much seeing as many people are not very interested (or think I am nuts). This was a great read! 😀 love it!

  • My Nan had a stroke ten years before she died. After she passed, my Mum told me that some stroke victims lose their memories, and she wasn’t sure if my Nan really knew who we were afterwards. A few nights after she died, I had a dream that my Nan took me for an ice cream and we sat at a picnic bench together. I asked her if she knew who I was after her stroke.. her reply, “no, but I do now.” 🙂

  • how about when you do not recognize who is in your dream like i did last night but i dreamt that someone was stabbing me in the back the pain was so real i woke up. all of my dreams are pain and fear. i don’t always like to go to sleep. i use meditation tape to go to sleep if i don’t iam awake every 2 hours all night long

  • I believe I havent had them but my mother visited me n my home. Saw all of her she was 23years old tho 89years when she passed. So I think it is wonderful.

  • I had a visitation dream occur a few months ago. I believe the spirit that appeared was of my recently deceased grandmother. The spirit must have been earthbound, because I did not feel at ease. The highlight of the dream, though, was the powerful message spoken by the spirit during my conversation with it: “There is no Heaven or Hell, only Peace.” It’s insane to think that this is a real phenomena occurring in the world, humans communicating with there loved ones from beyond the grave. Life is beautiful, and I wish my grandmother a safe crossing if she is still lingering on Earth.

  • I was very close to my grandpa, he was like a parent and a best friend. I love him so much. he passed away when I was 13 and I was devastated. I would often cry not understanding why he had to go so early…he was appearing in my dreams but he was far away. 15 years later, I had a dream and he was standing just in front of me. I started crying and asking him why did he have to go and leave me. He said ‘ that was the hardest thing I had to do’. I woke up and my dream felt so real, I felt his presence. and I stopped crying ever since. it was amazing.

  • I use to be a avid dreamer all of my life and always remembered my dreams for the most part. My son past away over 3 yrs ago and I haven’t had a dream since. I’ve prayed for them hoping to have a dream visit from him. Others have told me that perhaps my grief is too heavy and that’s why I can’t remember them. Well I believe my grief has lightened over this time so why haven’t I remembered not one dream???

  • I had my first visitation dream, just a couple of days ago, Sunday Feb 8, 2015. It was from my brother-in-law. He was brutally murder almost 2 years to the day of when I had my dream. The dream was that I was kneeling over my husband after he had past from a heart attack. I was asking my brother-in -law for help, not to take my husband. My brother in-law told me that it was my husbands time but for me to know that he will be with him and that my husband will be fine and watching over me.
This has kinda stressed me out. Is there something that my brother-in-law is trying to tell me about my husband? Will my husband soon depart? Wow, today is Monday and I am still crying trying to figure out the message that he is telling me.

  • Wow great post . I aften dream about my deceased loved ones. I will pay attention to the traits as messages from now on TY.

  • I hope you might have found signals of success and alerts about your near future also in your dream…

  • Hi, Any message you received by her in dream that you think was relevant to your real life.

  • Agree, it happens to many people but we use to dont share with other as people in surrounding take it lightly… please email me your experience over email if you wish.. would like to help you on this..

  • What about demons? I’ve had dreams where unloving, and evil beings have entered my dreams. One time i was set on fire at the end of my bed from a demon like spirit. Another time i was walking down my hallway and a woman in a blue dress with light colored hair turned into an ugly evil face with dark hair and get stress turned red and she opened her mouth and i could hear screaming all around me until it moved and started coming out of her mouth thought before she rushed forward to attack me. I woke up after the for and before the woman in the blue/red dress could reach me. Are those demonic dreams bc each time i thought i was awake until i would actually wake up covered in sweat and shaking bc of fear. These are just a couple examples but it feels like I’m Only visited by negative spirits or have dreams of bad events that will happen in my life… No ideas on what the event will be but i get a number for the date and i can still see the number when i wake up and will have a negative feeling with the dream.

  • I remember my maternal grandmother being in my dreams as a child quite often. Now as an adult whenever a loved on passes they come to me in my dreams as a way to show me they made it to wherever we go, all safe and sound and I believe to comfort me in my grief. 14 yrs ago my ex husband passed and even he visited and we both told each other even though things didn’t work out we had no regrets.

  • I have had one experience and was a long time ago.. but I still remember every bit of it..
The night my grand dad passed away I rec’d the news by telephone.. went back to sleep..
I had dreamed that my dog wanted out because he was in our bed.. so I got up and went to the kitchen door and as I opened the door, my grand dad was there with my Dad (had passed in 1986)…
The dog went straight to both and stood at the other side of the patio.. I was trying to get out of the door to hug them but I couldn’t get through and was crying.. My husband woke me up because I was crying and begging to go out.. What I haven’t figured out is .. it all felt too real not like a dream.. The dog I was letting out was my Zachary a doberman , he died the summer before…We didn’t have a dog at the time this happened…

  • Last year my only brother died unexpectadly at age 29. We later found out through the autopsy results, that he had leukemia. LAst night I had a dream where I was with my brohter in our house in Brazil. We were in my father’s library, it was night, it was dark in there. I could not see my brother but I could feel him. We were holding hands. We were talking through telepathy. He asked me to give our mom a message: to tell her to never get rid of his bed. If they move houses, take his bed, because that is where he sleeps. He said he has permission to come sleep there every night, but he has to leave at 6 am. He said he doesnt care what my mom does with his clothes, but he needs his bed. Then he said he is in a awesome place now, that I will see once its my turn. He said he had to go because he was “extrapolating” too much in life. (not sure how to translate to English, but basically he said he was doing more than he was expected to in life). Yes, was working 15 h a day, he barely had time to eat!

When he said he was in an awesome place, he used a word, slang in Portuguese, to describe the place. He used that word a lot in life. He said the place I am at now is “fera” (which means awesome).

I am puzzed with this dream, it felt SO real! I told my mom about the bed. Why does he need the bed though?

  • My 18 year old son passed away suddenly 5 months ago. The grief has been unbearable at times. I have been through all the emotions of his loss. I particularly felt that I never told him enough how much he was loved. I wanted him to know that he was missed too. About 10 weeks after he died he appeared in a dream. At first I did not recognize him. I thought it was his younger brother (they look a like). I also thought it was odd that he was at the stove cooking a steak because my youngest (does not cook). Then he turned around. I was surprised. No it could not be true! My son (who died) was passionate about cooking. You are supposed to be dead (I thought). How? Why? He did not say anything. The next moment I was hugging him so tight. I could feel him. I could touch his face. I told him over and over how much I loved him and missed him. I was so happy. Then I woke up. I felt such peace and happiness for the first time since he had passed. I told my daughter about the dream. She said I had a visitation. I did not know what that meant. I researched it. Wow! Now I am here writing about it. But there is more. My youngest son has struggled with the death of his brother too. They were very close. His final exam preparation has been difficult. His brother always helped him. I was driving him to the city one afternoon. I could feel that he was sad. I felt sad too. So I silently prayed for him. Prayed that his brother might visit him and let him know everything would be okay too – like he always did when alive. The moment I ended my silent prayer my youngest son spoke up. He said hey mum I had a dream last night. (I looked to the heavens with disbelief) I forgot to tell you. But my brother came to me in a dream last night. It felt so real. He did not speak but I could touch him and I felt that everything was going to be okay. He was able to let me know that I would get through it. At that moment, I knew that something truly amazing had happened. There have been other signs too. Way to many for them to be coincidences. I my heart still aches and feels empty but it is also filled with some hope now. That there is more to this life as we know it.

  • can u also help me in my dream, i dont know if its a dream but ive been visited two nights in a row as if he wants to awaken me he always appear when im facing the wall it seems he dont want to be seen

  • It seems very real… and think it looks that he is very attached to his living place, what was he doing 15 hours a day?

  • I have had a few dreams like this, first with my mother when she passed away. She had a massive stroke and she was brain dead, they said, I was 15 years old. I went to say my goodbyes to my mother. I saw a tear roll down her cheek. a few days later, in my dream she was sitting in the living room, in her blue dress that she was buried in with her make up on and her hair done the way she like it. She said she heard me and that everything would be okay. that she understood my anger but, things would get better.. That she knew i loved her and that she love me.

The most recent dream, was I was at home, then i heard someone calling my name, but calling from far away. I look around to see, then like a movie, I zoom through tree, it is daytime, winter, and everything is bright and sunny. finally I stop at a bank of river, where my family is all from and my sisters husband and where he had passed away. It is a beautiful sunny day, and still, i hear samantha i look across the river andthere is this person waving and calling me, i recognize the person, it is my brother in law, I wave back. I am happy to see him because I know he has been dead now for at least 2 years. He says, come across, I cant cross over to your side, only you can cross here, So somehow I cross the river and I reach him, we are happy to see each other, He is wearing his jeans and t shirt and his glasses, and he always had a big grin across his face. He tells me, I have a message for Myra, (his daughter) tell her I see her everyday, tell her i see all of them, I see her and all three of her daughters, Tell her I love them all. Now go and tell her. Then again like a movie a zip through trees and I jump out of bed with the intent to tell Myra. It is emotional and powerful and no doubt to me that this is a message for his daughter and his grandchildren. I give her the message and she says, she was missing him and thinking about him alot.
I never knew these were called visitation dreams, until i mentioned this to a friend at school and they said this was the name.

  • I had a visitation dream from my father one week after he died. It felt so real, unlike any other dream. He laid in bed next to me staring at the ceiling and only said two things. Yes he was ok, and yes there is a god. I felt he was there to comfort me about his passing and answer the two questions that were in my head after his death. I will never forget it. Unless you experience this, you just can’t imagine the feeling.

  • This happened to me when I was about 14-15. My great-nan had recently passed at the age of 94 and I was devastated. One night, about a week after she passed, I had this insanely vivid dream (not had one as vivid before or since) where almost everything, down to the gown she was wearing, was blue (I didn’t realise the significance of that until about 6 months later when I was reading about colour correspondences and discovered that blue is indicative of peace). She was sitting on a high-backed chair, drinking tea from a China cup. She sat me down and said to me something like “I know you’re very sad that I’m gone, but I want you to know that I’m not, really. Death is not the end. My body may be gone, but I’m not. I’m still here, and I’m watching over you.”
I woke up sobbing and went to tell my mum who, naturally, didn’t really believe it, but I knew, without a shadow of a doubt, that it really was her.
I’ve been a lot more at peace with the idea of ‘death’ since then.

  • Hi, I just read about your amazing visitation and your son’s too. I have had them with my daughter. I am writing about children in the spirit world and am working on a chapter about visitation dreams. I would love to share this story. Could I email you personally?

  • My mother first visited me with a butterfly…letting me know she shed her cocoon… Then she visited me in my dreams..I asked her how are you here? She said I don’t know…life and death always will be a mystery… Thanks to her I look forward to the answers death provides
..I know there is an afterlife

  • I have just had the second “visitation” dream from my good friend that passed about four years ago. The first one kind of matched the second one, but this most recent visitation was very peaceful and it’s always never long enough. It’s very real and vivid, almost like lucid dreaming. We just sat and talked and enjoyed being in each other’s presence. I can’t help but think he’s my spiritual guide or spiritual soul mate because I’ve never had any other dreams of other deceased people close to me ever reaching out, including my grandmother whom I like to think we were close. His visit just made me feel good and centered, but the feeling is still sticking with me after a few days.

  • I have been searching for others like me for a very long time.. You can’t imagine what a relief it is to hear that I am not alone. I have visitations from many strangers almost every night.. all wanting me to turn them into light. My mother is a well known and gifted medium and even she had little guidance in this matter. It wasn’t until I freaked out an ex boyfriend of mine that I realized my dreams are very real and that I may in fact be some sort of astral gatekeeper. I hide among the crowds and keep my truths secret always silently searching for others that are like me. The logical side of me wanted to believe I am crazy, but I am not crazy and my rare gift is a lifetime curse. The closest example I have ever been able to find is dream walking yet it’s something different than that. I honestly can’t explain it fully and that is why I am opening up here in this chat. If you are like me.. please find me on facebook or reach out to me. I want guidance, support or control over this gift….

  • I’ve had visitation dreams all my life. I’ve dreamed about Jesus…and my best friend who died 2 years ago.. she came to me with two golden glowing beings on either side of her. I’ve tried to get help with understanding these dreams, but no one ever responds to me.

  • My Husband passed away last May and since then I’ve had strong dreams experiences. 1st dream was 1 week after and he was in a house/club/hotel that I never saw before aand he was confuse, asking why we were cleaning his office and throwing his belongs away. I told him that he had passed, explaining that it was sudden and he said: no I’m ALIVE. 2nd dream he was showing one beautiful place, mountain with an ocean view, he took me everywhere, to an apartment in front of the ocean and he asked if I liked and he said he had chosen the place for us…When I confronted him saying that I was confunde because he was dead, so he said again: I’m ALIVE. Important to mention the sky and ocean had different colors, the view was diffrent. 3rd dream I met him in a small simple bedroom, he hugged me and said: “Honey, I’m alive”. 4th dream, we were in beautiful lobby and while we were hugging and kissing, I got up. Very very real all of them and I took notes so I’ll not forget. Another very intriguing thing that validates all my dreams above is because 3 weeks before he passed I dreamed that he passed and after checking if he was on my side in bed okay I told him my dream. His answer was scary, he said: Better to not tell you what I dreamed about… “I dreamed with people that are not here anymore and I saw you crying a lot.” I remember going to the bathroom saying: “Oh no God, I’m not ready for that, give ore years to husband”.

  • I never knew this is blowing away my mind. My husband says every night between three in and five I am talking in my sleep. My husband also needed to go another bed because I moved around so much, or he just move to another room completely. But I do get these eery feelings in my sleep where I wake up praying as if the devil is at me. But just recently I dreamt of going on the other side if the door talking with my mother because I was so sick, this had answers so many questions. I’m pretty sure I’m a dreamer so now I understand more.

  • Hello this was interesting and I would like to share my visit I had when I was 10 or 11 and I’m 48 now I have never forgotten this ever and I’m not crazy and this really happened….
I was in my bed sleeping when I was awakened by a lady dressed in white her black hair in a bun and her red lipstick she seemed gentle and soft spoken as she shook my leg and said “Jamie….Jamie Lynn”
And I sat up I felt scared but I also could sense a gentleness in her voice, she said, “Come with me I want to show you something…….”I said okay but I need to use the restroom first, I went up the hall to the restroom and realized how frightened I was to go with someone, I didn’t understand cause I was awake so I flushed the toilet and ran as fast as I could back down the hall and diagnally across from my bedroom was my parents room so I was trying to open there door and saying dad dad dad and as the bedroom door opened as I struggeled to open it , my dad looked up and the minute he looked up, I fell forward like as if someone was pulling me one way and I was resisting so much that when they let go I fell forward.
I for some reason when I tell my dad of this dream and describe this women he says it describes his mom my grandmother who passed when I was two my dad was her only child. She died to young. Please if you can give me any insight on this, please help me where was she going to take me? I was awake, I was awakened by this lady

  • But I will say I was awake not dreaming I was dreaming PROBLY when I was woke up by her?
