The Transpersonal Heart
By Victoria Pendragon
Anyone reading this publication is familiar with the heart chakra and everyone alive is very aware of his or her physical heart but you may be less familiar with something called the transpersonal heart, a small energetic center that is also located in the chest. Small in size, relative to its companions, it is broad in scope.
Your physical heart is critical to your being alive and its relationship with the heart chakra is well established. Your physical heart connects you to life itself; your heart chakra connects you to life in a very different but equally critical way as it serves to support relationships of all sorts. So the purview of the physical heart is a mundane one. People often use that word, mundane, in less than complimentary ways but mundane also applies simply to things that are of the material world and the physical heart, being an undeniably physical thing, is most certainly that.
Your heart chakra has a more ethereal purpose and is often associated with the metaphysical/spiritual concept of the soul, an aspect of the self that exists in tandem with spirit when spirit is embodied in a human form. Spirit and soul, both pure energy, find a very pure expression through the heart chakra and via that connection that assists you, the embodied creation of your spirit self, in connecting with others in your world at what we often call a heart level. Sympathy and empathy are born here as we see ourselves reflected in others.
The transpersonal heart, though, has a purpose even more sublime and perhaps somewhat more difficult to connect with, which may be why you have not heard too much about it before. Your transpersonal heart is located almost directly opposite your physical heart but up about a hands width. Your perception of it is apt to be that it seems quite small, only about the size of an American quarter coin. The scope of its activity, however, is huge.
If you have read any older texts about the nature of the chakras then you know that the seven that most people speak of and deal with are only the largest of the chakras; the most believable text I ever came across put the total number of chakras at 360,000. If you have ever had an acupuncture treatment then you have some experience with the locations of a few of these 360,000. Every one of these small chakras has a function within the body. Every one of these chakras is a place that energy flows through in the exquisite network of your energetic body and every one of them is also a place where energy can become stuck, causing some kind of dis-ease within the body.
There are two chakras however where energy cannot get stuck, two chakras which are always open for business as long as you are breathing. The one you are very familiar with is the crown chakra, your connection to the spirit being that you currently embody. The other is the transpersonal heart, your connection to the larger entity of humanity.
Every one of us thinks of him or herself as an individual but in truth, that individuality is no more than a temporary illusion on the vast screen of eternity. You and I are no more individual than are the individual cells of our body, none of which could survive (naturally, at least) without the support of the rest of the body. Each and every one of us is as a cell in the prodigious organism called humanity. It is this connection, now recognized by quantum biology as undeniable, which is the province of the transpersonal heart.
As we experience the Piscean age drifting away from us we will begin to experience a very, very gradual shift away from the individual and move from the world of “I” with its charismatic leaders and gurus, out of the world of hierarchies and into the world of heterarchies, into a world where our interconnectedness is not only acknowledged but used for the furtherance of humanity. We will move into the realm governed by the transpersonal heart. The move has already begun; I am sure that you have felt it, have had experience with or seen at least one of the many online movements championing causes in countries you’ve never been to, movements that have been spawned by groups of people and are seeking the support of even more groups of people, not leaders, not followers…just people working together for the betterment of the world.
This is the externalized activity of the transpersonal heart. You are a part of it; I am a part of it; everyone is. Just as the crown chakra connects us to the oneness that is spirit, the transpersonal heart connects us to the oneness that is humanity.
Chances are that if you bend your right arm at the elbow and allow your palm to rest on your chest about halfway between your right nipple and the top of your shoulder, your palm (chakra) will be able to rest on your transpersonal heart. Try it. See how it feels to you. Become aware of its activity. Most importantly, know that it is, know that as more of us connect consciously with its energy, its influence will be ever more strongly felt in the world.
There is a word, ubuntu, whose roots lie in Africa, the birthplace of humanity as far as we know, and which refers exactly to the purview of the transpersonal heart: to the intrinsic oneness of humanity. Besides feeling the existence of your transpersonal heart as a part of your energetic physical body, you might also want to consider thinking about the ubuntu, about incorporating this concept into your mental reality, into your everyday conversations and musings.
We make this world happen, let’s make it everything that we know it could be…in our shared transpersonal heart.
