Claire Zammit: Awakening the Co-creative Feminine
OMTimes: For women who are feeling tired, run down, disappointed in life…, what are little things that they can start doing today so that they can start learning to trust themselves to be able to thrive within their work, creativity and relationships?
Claire: We live in a culture where doing is highly valued, so we tend to feel anxious when we’re not being productive. But of course, we’re human beings, not human doings! So I think it’s really important for women to actually take time to value being over just doing. We need to take time to connect with ourselves and to connect with the energy of life.
Ironically, because we live in a culture that is so focused on doing, sometimes we have to do something, to create some kind of practice or environment, whether it’s meditation or yoga, a hot bath or sitting silently in a garden, to get to that place of deep listening where we’re relaxed and open enough to connect with ourselves and with the energy of life. So I’d really advise women to create that quiet time and space in whatever way works best, and then begin to ask the question, what do I most deeply desire to express, contribute, and create? There’s no right answer, and it may take time to reconnect with yourself in this way, but making a practice of that kind of deep listening is so important, because it then allows you to take actions that honor your deeper knowing. That kind of regular practice of just being can be profoundly life-changing.
