Creating peace starts with being at peace with self. Then you will find it easier to be at peace with other people. Learn to be at peace with yourself and everyone you are fortunate enough to meet; to accept without conditions the people in your life. When you can stop judging and criticizing others, and can start loving and accepting them as they are right now, you are more likely to be able to be at peace. The way to create peace in our world is for each of us to take responsibility for ourselves. Responsibility for creating ‘better feeling’ thoughts and better ways to behave Responsibility for accepting that when we are not at peace we are not expressing our true selves; but instead we are expressing the conditioning we have had throughout our lives. Responsibility for realizing that our anger, resentment, frustration and emotional pain and simply defense mechanisms prevent us from being at peace. As each of us learns to be at peace we can affect the consciousness of our world, increasing the likelihood that one day there will be world peace.
Make being at peace a priority in your life – but not peace at any cost, especially not at the expense of yourself. If you take on the burden of keeping the peace for the sake of peace, because you are afraid to stand up for yourself, think that standing up for yourself is not worth the effort or don’t want to ‘rock the boat’, you dishonour yourself. When you can be at peace regardless of what happened in the past, or how people choose to treat you now, you will manage your life very well.
