Face Reading and the Face of a Mother
By Michelle Butt
Have you ever wondered why, when a woman is pregnant and as her belly grows, her face often seems to become rounder? Her cheeks seem to get noticeably fuller? Or her lips may seem a little plumper?
Yes, this could be because of the distribution of weight gain with the growing baby. Or there could be something else going on, something energetic that is being written on the story of that woman’s face – the story of a mother-to-be.
In face reading there are certain features and combinations of features that connote the archetypal Mother energy. If we, as face readers, see a person with plump, full lower cheeks, we know that, for that person, relationships and connections are important. That person will hold family and friends as priority in their lives. If a person has full upper cheeks, she will most likely, be very compassionate and warm in any of her communications, much like a mother singing a lullaby to a baby or soothing a child with a ‘boo-boo’ with comforting words.
A person with beautiful full lips may be someone who is called to nurture and be nurtured. She will want to make sure her loved ones are fed, both physically and emotionally. It will fulfill her to take care of others.
These are all features of the quintessential, benevolent mother archetype. In face reading, we believe that the story of you is written on your face. Each new experience, both emotional, energetic and physical has a part to play in your story, and thus is evidenced on your face.
So, yes, weight gain with a baby is normal, but a pregnant woman’s face can also show changes in plumpness to say to the world that energetically she is getting prepared to change her behavior. If her lower cheeks get plumper, she is most likely readjusting her priorities. Perhaps, family is about to be even more important to her than before. If she normally has flat upper cheeks and they begin to fill out some, energetically she may be preparing to be more compassionate and nurturing in her communications, especially with her new little one. If her lips do plump-up, we can know that she is getting ready to nurture and care for others more in her life, especially her family.
There can be changes that may not necessarily be as positive that show up on the face. There can, often times, be some anxiety and fear associated with becoming a mother, especially for the first time and these signs could manifest in different ways on the face as well, but because May is the month in which we honor Mothers, I will leave those discussions for another time.
What I want you to take away more than anything from reading this today is that our bodies, our minds and our emotions are beautifully orchestrated to intertwine. Changes happen with precise and awe-inspiring synchronicity and whether we know it consciously or not, our faces reflect who we are on every level of our being.
If you are a mom, like me, whose cheeks have stayed plump, years after your pregnancies are over, then now you know some of the reasons why, especially if your children are front and center in your life. If you find yourself with more patience and tact than you had before you had children, and you look back at old photos and see chiseled, lean cheekbones, don’t bemoan them, bless the cheeks of compassion you have now, because of who you have become.
To all the Mothers of the world, we, as face readers, see you. We see your love and we see your sacrifice. Who you are and who you are to your loved ones, doesn’t go unnoticed to us. Thank you for sharing your story with us. Happy Mother’s Day!

Face Reading is her passion as she has come to know that ALL that we have internally experienced emotionally, physically and environmentally, tells its story externally on our faces. Our faces are our unique offerings to the world and they hold a treasure of insights that we can begin to discover and embrace through the Science of Face Reading.
Her goal in life is to assist others in truly understanding who they are, what they are saying to the world, at all times, by all means, and to guide them to achieving the joyful, fulfilling, successful lives that they desire.
