Mind/Body Weight Loss – Day 0

There are several key components of mind/body weight loss:

Diet Awareness

A good diet is a crucial component, but it isn’t so much about the calories as it is about the quality of the food.  Processed foods create inflammation in the body and are nutrient deficient.  To add insult to injury, they increase the burden put on the body, as it has to detoxify all the synthetic ingredients. Don’t get me wrong, if you continually eat far more than the your body’s needs, you will gain weight, but once you begin to eat quality, whole foods you’ll notice a shift in your preferences, satiety and a decrease in cravings.  Diet awareness is about knowing what you are eating and more importantly, why you are eating it.  It is about asking yourself, what am I really feeding?

Our bodies need to move not only as part of scheduled exercise, but also just more in daily life.  We have been trained to into thinking that this needs to be difficult, arduous and in some cases, painful to see benefit.   It has become a chore instead of a desire.  How do we bring more purpose and joy into our exercise regime?   Using the five principals of Holistic Fitness: breath, balance, nourishment, awareness and gratitude in your routine, you can bring more meaning into your movement.  It allows your exercise to be an expression of what it truly should be – an outlet for your spirit.   Think about this next time you are on a treadmill; is there a way to bring more of these principals into your workout?  Instead of watching TV, spend the time thinking of all things you are grateful for or start paying attention to your breath.  As you bring your attention to the present moment, you will start to get more out of the activity.
