30 Days of Self Healing – Day 30
Hugs can heal
“When you hug, you validate and honor the person you are hugging.”
Dr. Fabrizio Mancini
Every day my body gets a major boost of resistance to disease. Any ailment—either physical or mental—that might try to strike me has very little chance of success. Everything about my body and mind feels in a high state of regeneration.
What sparks this increase in my inner strength? A hug does it. In this world of highly evolved intelligence and mega-theories on what makes us all tick, I’ve found that for me, the most effective form of connection with another person dates back to the beginning of time. I’m often asked why I go around hugging people all the time, as if I’d known them forever. Well, I grew up with a Colombian mother and a father of Italian descent. I rest my case! We hugged all the time; we kissed all the time. I had grandparents who hugged me all the time, and uncles and aunts who hugged me all the time. To me, hugs are second nature.
When I was in college, my mom sent me a wallet-sized card that expressed all the benefits of a hug: trust in others, healing, love, openness, communication, and much more. She gave it to me as a reminder that we are a family of huggers, and though separated by states, I should continue the family tradition with my new friends.
Her gesture made me recognize that hugs are not just for me, because it made me feel good and it made me feel connected with others, but that it was actually for the purpose of making others feel connected.
