A Daily Look Within – Day 14
We may become critical over whether we realize or recognize the self that shines back at us: “Is this really how I am?” “Is that really how I think or feel about something?” “Do I really come across this way to others?” It takes a bit of finesse to extract from our detective work the truths we find; very much like a miner panning for gold. It takes strength to accept how we are…to know that our lifetime of conditioning has made us this way. And it takes even more strength and determination to make changes happen when we decide we do not like the way we are; that we can choose to follow or forge a different path.
Okay, so we’ve looked at our selves from our perspective–and also know that reflections happen in other places or with other people. These others–it isn’t about what they look like necessarily, but keeping to our own curiosity, how are we reflected in them? What is it about the people with whom we live and work that reflects “us” back at us? Do we share the same history or heritage, or do we contrast with each other like light and dark? Were we raised or educated to the same degree, or are there differences of what we know that helps to keep our ego in check or that might elicit the teacher in us?
Do we share the beacon of a common goal with our neighbors or do they reflect our hostility back at us? Are we assured of what we all want; or do we, our selves and our friends alike, walk around dazed and confused about where we are or what our possibilities could be? We may find we are very adept at looking out, and seeing the landscape before us as “wide open;” while at the same time feel constricted by the lack of “elbow room” we have; and be unable to reconcile the emotion of frustration or insecurity that is reflected back to us. Might we understand that what makes one person aggravated can be reflected among others? Do we see how much of a web of reflection there is among various groups?
