A Daily Look Within – Day 14
And do we like what we see there, or could we seek to change how entire groups perceive themselves or are perceived by others? I am thinking of specific instances here, such as getting on a crowded bus or train during rush hour. Or visiting the mall during the holiday season when everyone is hustling and bustling here and there to find the perfect present for everyone on their list. Or joining the throng of fans at a sporting event or concert. What do we see reflected, and how do we feel? Are we happy to be in the group, or do we feel cramped and rushed? Could we influence the lives of others in any of those groups I mentioned–one against many? If we enter a group as our own mind is troubled, do we reflect our disturbance? Conversely, if we enter a “wild” crowd with a sense of calm and peace, are we noticed for our difference and does that take root? Singing a birthday song or seasonal carol in a crowded restaurant usually draws happy attention and can lighten the mood; causing a drastic reflection–a mixture of curiosity and joy to take place.
Stepping another level back to look, how is our humanity reflected on our home planet? Many of us realize that humans, as a whole, have made a mess of the Earth in many ways. We have let our standards slide, permitted wrong actions to go unchecked, or not kept as good of an eye on just how much of a reflection we have where our planet is concerned. If our globe was something held in a curio cabinet, would we be able to show it off with pride as a gleaming treasure, or would we hide the dust and wear that has accumulated on it thanks to our neglect? The state of the world does reflect upon its inhabitants; the cycle works both ways.
