A Daily Look Within – Day 15
Even scented candles were used sporadically, or when someone became unusually “gassy.” But, to light a candle to merely have the Flame exist for the use of contemplative thought? To stand or sit and just watch its play, shape, and structure? To watch its glow in the early morning hours in my kitchen, illuminating even what the overhead light does not…. Giving heat to my chilled or damp fingers as I encircle it in prayerful thought…. Feeling the warmth of its glow, not just on my external self or even the backs of my eyes, but feeling its connection down even further within, to where we all exist and just are. Knowing that, like the Flame, we all have a purpose which is really so much like that of the Flame: to come and start from a spark, from what seems like nothingness, into existence; to hold form and substance while consuming a fuel source; to exist, dance, bend, change shape, move with the flow of external forces while remaining steady and true to our purpose; to reach ever higher, striving for what seems to be unattainable or longing for “whatever and all” that is above; to shine and emit ourselves while doing just that, bringing light and illumination from our self to all that is around us; to be all we can be while we are here—because at the top of the Flame, at the peak of that cone or point of light, there is nothing visible anymore—but the heat rises ever upward and dissipates into molecules of Air. Thus, the Flame ultimately becomes another element.
