A Daily Look Within – Day 15

Once the fuel source is exhausted or spent, or if the Flame is extinguished for whatever reason, there is smoke—the remnant of the once-existing Flame. Put out a Fire and there is smoke. Notice how the smoke tends to linger—as if to ask, “Where’s the Fire? Where did it go? What happened, it was just here?” It can almost smolder…and we have maybe seen candles or matches become re-lit by what remains—catching Fire again, as the Flame’s intention and being finds a new home. Not just the mere “passing the torch,” but the passing of the very Flame itself from one existence to another. How very like the Flame are we all.

We move and change with every breath, experiencing through our senses all that is around us, “becoming” what we are…just like Fire. A candle’s Flame is a wonder to behold. A campfire can keep our eyesight occupied almost endlessly, watching the Flames lick the wood and change shape and color. A wildfire, even in all its destruction, can hold us spellbound by its awesome power and the eerie glow of its smoldering embers. Fire’s warmth allows people to live in places we may not normally live, and do things we may not normally do if we were so very reliant upon the weather.

We naturally hold a respect and maybe even a fear of Fire, for it is not very “understandable.” Oh, we can say we know about Fire and what causes it, or we can point to sources of fuel or sparks or components of Fire, but the actual mechanism of the being of Fire lies in the realm of the unknown force of creation. The aspects have to be just right in order for Fire to exist. Consider that the next time you have to repeatedly strike a match or lighter.
