A Daily Look Within – Day 22
Think of all the little, fresh plants and seedlings, beautiful flowers, and baby animals—who would, conversely, perish without mother’s milk, or shrivel and die for lack of rainfall. How many crops are lost for lack of this vital element? As mentioned, summer’s heat brings its own, more intense need for Water.
How many nations rely on ground Water for daily life? Have you seen people scramble en masse to get to what is technically a mud pit, where they can wallow and wash their bodies, babies and clothes? Consider how much that basic need is and how people over the centuries have had to “make do” with inadequate Water supplies.
Think about how “gourmet” our own tastes of Water have become in recent years. How much bottled and filtered Water we use in a day, week, or month? Yes, we pay a premium price for this luxury, especially when you compare it to the pennies per gallon it may take to make simple drinking Water possible for so many of the other humans on Earth.
Water can be unpredictable: it can be scarce, causing droughts, and it can be prolific, causing floods. It is for these “unknown” reasons that Water is one of the more respected, and maybe more mysterious, of the elements. We can appreciate Water for all its aspects and respect its inherent power. We learn to get out of the way when a wall of water is threatening a coastline or flooding an area.
While Water is an abundant resource, not all of it is potable. There are many places on earth inhabited by people and animals where drinking Water is very questionable. We realize that Water is an important and necessary need for all beings, and should be afforded as much as a right to life. What kind of life would you have without enough Water to drink?We should couple our inherent need for this element with a deep understanding and appreciation of it by working to see that everyone the world over has sufficient and clean Water to use and enjoy.
