“The Heart Remembers” – Caring; Challenges to Service
“Memory may fail us, but the heart remembers.” [my quote]
It can be difficult for our brain to understand, but our heart does contain its own special measure of memory. Spiritually, the heart’s capacity for memory can be far more accurate and deeper than what we think is contained in our brain. In fact, we may argue that those who suffer brain damage still hold valid and valuable existence in their heart center because of the connection that is housed there.
Think of different examples of the spiritual iconography and statues we see in places like churches and temples that point to this “sacred heart” area. Do you think this is just done for artistic merit? The artist had nothing better to do than leave the chest area open, exposed, pointed to, highlighted, lit on fire, etc.? There is a reason why so many of us recognize what is relayed and what happens when emotion, truth teaching, and healing are felt by the heart-center of our being. When we think of being centered, we can ask if that balance lies in our brain…or in our heart.
Beyond any of our five senses, the heart is the repository of all the inner and outer workings of our body and what we call our self. The brain may be our big computer-like processor, but the results are felt and understood by our heart in a way that surpasses the things our brain may think it knows. In fact, many dis-eases might be recognized as being disconnections between what our mind perceives and what the rest of our body knows.
