A Daily Look Within – Day 28

“Proper Focus” – Reflection; Self-check; Balance

“What do you want to do today?”

“I dunno. What do YOU want to do today?”

Remember being a kid and hanging out with your friends on a lazy hazy summer day when there was no school and not a whole lot to do? All you had was a whole lot of time, with few obligations or places you had to be. You could spend hours at the playground or running around with your best buddy going swimming or hanging out playing card games. Maybe you were lucky enough to have a bunch of toys or a bike to ride around the neighborhood just because it was something to do.

It does not take long before those “golden” days from our past are recalled with such fondness, along with a little yearning to return there even for a little while. Much as those good old days are past, we can “forget what it is like” to exist in an easy way. Our life can get complicated as we get older and we often do not recognize it as it happens. One day, it can catch up to us with just how many things we must do or places we must go. When we can use more time in our day, we better appreciate those days gone by when we had so much down-time to enjoy.

We cannot help but take notice when things get out of balance. Life has a way of bringing things to our attention; often, in ways we least expect. Consider the person who is always in a rush to get around–fleeing the house in a hurry to get to work, dashing all day to meetings and appointments, running about in their spare time with assorted errands and other activities at night. That person may have a short temper with others, even loved ones, and might not realize just how harried their daily existence is until they are injured in some unexpected accident.

This is usually when the realization dawns on them that they need to take it easy. There are other dis-eases that can take their toll on our body over time, that have a way of sneaking up on us until they knock us down for a while. It does not have to be this way!

Things can get out of hand and imbalanced if we do not pay attention to them. The simple act of giving our selves the gift of proper focus can go a long way toward helping us manage our daily life in a way that is more balanced and less stressful.

Contemplation Piece: It does not have to be a long, hard look either, this proper focus. But the more we pay attention to something, we find out more about it. So do not limit yourself to only choosing to focus on the good things. There might be something in your life that is a problem, and taking a focused look at it might help you find a solution. Encourage your self to find a few minutes each day to really look at something in-depth. Pay attention to your reactions.

Like flipping on a switch, turning the spotlight of your focus on a subject near and dear to you can be very revealing. Only you can interpret if the way it affects you is good or bad, and what you can do about it. Know that ignoring the matter does not make it go away. When we lose focus, we are subject to stumbling around in the dark. It can be very painful trying to exist this way.

Feedback Request: Maybe Now is a good time to take a look at something in your life with proper focus? Just a few minutes will reveal a lot. You do not have to do it alone. If it helps, share your findings with us here. Namaste ~ Blessings!
