A Daily Look Within – Day 29

Situations arise, let us be honest, when our sense of right and wrong is skewed or goes a little awry. We are tuned into emotional responses. These take us beyond our mind, into a state of mindlessness. Consider how we humans can get when we gather together for a certain purpose. This is beyond regular “teamwork“ here, and something larger than just getting a task accomplished.
Whether it be in a large theater of war; cheering in a stadium at a sports contest or the Olympics; gathered in an arena or theater to hear the music of our favorite musical artist or group; dancing in the club of our choice; or caught up in the emotion of a prayer service, Hallelujah!, we can be subjected to mind- and reason-numbing fervor or fanaticism.
We can work ourselves into a state of emotional frenzy, which overrides the practical side of whatever else is going on. Circumstances do play a part. There are times in moments of jubilation when the hometown team wins a sport championship and riots can ensue. Riots! Cars overturned, stores looted, all sorts of mayhem on the streets. No wonder fear drives so much of our “protection,” when groups of us are so likely to be fueled into mass hysteria. Acting in ways that do not promote balanced “humanity” does not put a very practical face on what we do when emotions take over, right?
Is it good or right that others “tell” us how best to be and what we “must“ do, or might there be an element to life where we get to figure that out for ourselves–that maybe we are SUPPOSED to, or that it is something we are meant to do? Hmmm… Practical or emotional, the middle path of balance and choice sure takes some work, does it not?
