A Daily Look Within – Day 29
Common sense tells us that while extremes are “out there,” they do not happen in the course of our everyday life–at least not in so-called civilized society. Are there dangers out there? Sure. However, there are also ways we operate in any given day that do not promote them or encourage others to just take advantage of us and let their whimsical desires or wild sides run amok. That would not only be unsafe but unwise.
A woman in skimpy attire does not walk down the street alone into a pack of drunken men and expect to come out of the encounter unscathed. The practical reality is that many of us do not go out our front door looking to get into trouble. This is why it can irk people to see so much being done “for our safety.” The world is not THAT full of chaos and danger that we need to expend so much energy and resources keeping you, me, and the rest of the world “safe.” What does that word really mean? Will we never be harmed or experience pain? Will all that safety make the pain that much more manageable or avoidable? Eh…..
Giving us a few white lines in the street to walk between is not going to stop some wild driver from driving through a red light and plowing into someone. Steer shoppers by going in the “in” door and out the “out” door–do not go against the expected way, or we might bang a few shopping carts together. Putting up x-ray machines before riders get on a plane is not going to stop someone from causing some other sort of problem or disruption on board. It just will not.
