A Daily Look Within – Day 8
Air, and the atmosphere all around us, carries the very temperatures of the seasons to our senses. In the winter, we experience the low temperatures and frigid Air that hold us virtually immobile. It is as though time stands still in the winter Air, as sound is muffled and quieted by blankets of snow and ice. It can be a time of quiet contemplation and one of hope for the seasons to come. The spring Air brings us the vibrancy of the new and resurgent life all around us. The Air of spring blows warmer and moister Air that fills us with new life. The heat of summer Air can leave us dragging, especially if it is overly humid. The “blast furnace” of the sun beating down on Air that has little movement lets us truly feel the blessings of heat and Fire that we may miss and wish for during a cold, dark winter. The breezes of fall Air bring us the sounds of the rustle of leaves, and the reminder that it is a time to gather the people and other necessities we will need for the quiet time ahead. We can enjoy the snap and crunch of the twigs, branches, and other natural scents that come to us thanks to Air during fall.
I consider Air to be an important aspect to life as I know it. My astrological sign, Aquarius, is an Air sign, and I feel an affinity for Air. I have struggled through bronchitis many times and pneumonia twice, and know intimately what it is like to not be able to breathe or breathe fully. I have been outdoors in hurricanes and thunderstorms, and felt the wind surrounding me, swirling and pounding, blowing hard and strong. I have been in the woods and heard the leaves blowing way up high in the trees, being rustled and pushed around by the Air. I have seen whirlwinds of leaves and trash blowing in spirals on the ground. I have seen Air in its playful best and its awful worse.
