Close your eyes and take one deep breath and let it out, as you let it out relax. On the next breaths, breathe normally, but notice and focus your mind on the relaxation you feel as you exhale.
Each time you exhale feel more relaxed, and focus on that feeling of relaxation as you breathe out. Breathe normally. Feel where the relaxation is going in your body, notice the tension. As you exhale feel the relaxation ease that tension in your body. Focus on the feeling of relaxation in your body; in your back, your arms, your legs and anywhere you feel tense. Consciously relax your muscles, one area at a time. In each pause just before you inhale focus on how your body feels. If you feel tense somewhere, use your exhalation to relax into that area.
If your mind wanders bring it back to catch the next inhale and notice your relaxation feeling as you exhale. Keep bringing your mind back to the feeling of relaxation in your body after you exhale.
Do this for about one minute. Each time we sigh, we relax, it’s that feeling of relaxation that we can focus our mind on just for a moment. If you can’t do one minute, do a moment. Then try to do two moments and then three, and so on.
Try practicing this meditation for the next day or so. You can practice whenever you can whether you are at work or at home. You can even do this meditation on your train or bus ride to work. It only takes a minute. Share your experiences with me here in the comments section.
