C.S. Bromley – Running Down the Path to OM
Cee: My mom enrolled me in dance, tap and ballet at age 4, and competitive gymnastics shortly after. My mother was a Jazzercise instructor so she had me doing demos in the local mall and parades and taking classes from an early age as well. I loved it!
Also, my grandmother and I were as close as 2 people could be. She was very active. She walked at least twice every single day, up to an hour each walk. So it was our pattern, it was our lifestyle. We would have sleepovers all the time, then we’d have breakfast and dinner and go for walks after each and we’d talk about life. Being active was something I grew up with, and was always fun. I’m very blessed to have such fond memories of physical activity implanted into me from as long as I can remember.
OM Times: When did you know you would be in fitness for the long run?
Cee: When I was 8, I ran a race at school and the Gym teacher called my family in for a meeting. Apparently I had unofficially broken a world record that day. I had always known I could outrun the boys – I was faster and didn’t tire – but that day a new path was set forward for me. All through high school, track and field was my sport, and eventually earned me an athletic bursary to college and there I had hopes of going to the Olympics. To improve my track skills as a teenager, and also as another means of being fit, I wanted to become a member at the local fitness center, but they made me wait until my 14th birthday. So on my 14th birthday I became a member at the fitness center. They taught me how to use the machines, and all about reps and weights, and working out the different muscle groups. I loved it.
