C.S. Bromley – Running Down the Path to OM
Fitness of any means, whether dance, weights, or a run has always been my outlet and my structure.
OM Times: How did you develop an interest in healing?
Cee: In my second year of college I became ill. I had severe abdominal pain and fatigue which had been following me around for years and hospitalized me a few times in high school. After 3 surgeries, there still was no answer as to the cause or a means to make it go away. Due to the surgeries and my lack of taking the appropriate time to heal before beginning training again for track, I tore a lot of abdominal muscle and couldn’t even walk to class for about 3 months without having to sit down on the side of the road and just cry due to pain and frustration. What seemed like the worst of times was actually a gift. It prompted me to pursue alternative therapies, which did in fact eventually heal me. It changed the course of my life; I was going to become a western doctor, a psychologist. My grandfather and uncle are pharmacists, so western medicine was a large part of our beliefs. I remember when I was young I used to ask my grandfather to read me the medical encyclopedia. I always knew I wanted to be involved in health, but this occurrence in college taught me that it would be eastern, not western medicine. I never did find out what the diagnosis was, but I don’t believe that was the point. I believe it was a catalyst to put me on my true path; there is no point in medically labelling it.
