Choosing Good Foods for Good Moods
Most of us would agree with this statement. But then things get complicated.
Gluten-free, paleo or vegan? Soothe with carbs or shore up with protein? Is dairy good or evil? Is organic food worth the extra cost?
I get confused by the conflicting nutritional information. Still, as a moody mom of moody kids, I need to figure this out. What should I be feeding my family to help us feel better?
Real, whole foods—including meat
According to Foods for Moods, Regina Meredith’s interview with Trudy Scott on GaiamTV’s Healing Matrix, the right kinds of protein can be beneficial. Scott says research supports a correlation between a high-quality, whole foods diet that includes red meat and reduced anxiety.
Red meat? Really? I haven’t eaten red meat for years.
But Scott explains, when we don’t feel well, something needs to be adjusted. If a philosophical viewpoint like avoiding animal products conflicts with what our body needs to feel good, we must find a way to resolve that dilemma. Some people bounce back and forth between diets for years before committing to a pattern of eating that enhances energy and promotes contentment.
