Feng Shui from the Inside, Out – Day 12
If only we taught our children to do that, to respond to their natural likes and dislikes instead of squashing them in favor of what some authority thinks works best…oh, wait! We actually could do that if we wanted to and it would work just fine.
Years ago – decades ago, in fact – researchers presented a group of infants with an array of foods on their high-chairs from which they could eat whatever they liked. What they discovered was that although on any given day some child might consume only one thing at one meal, by the end of a week every child had consumed what could be termed a balanced diet. Infant’s bodies are smart and in control. Most parenting ensures that such inborn wisdom is squashed by so-called reason.
In later years, especially when sports are involved, the body is again subjected to the whims of over-zealous coaches and parents as advice like, “walk it off” or “get back in there” is proffered, overriding the body’s need to have its energetic flow restored or even just to take a rest. The body even takes a backseat to schoolwork which must, at all costs, come first, never mind how tired you may be.
What am I getting at? The fact that most of us have a pretty strained relationship with our bodies and that’s not so good. Your relationship with your body is the most intimate and the most important relationship you will ever have and chances are good that your body doesn’t feel as if it can trust you.
