Feng Shui from the Inside, Out – Day 16

Remember, too, that across from wherever you spend a lot of time sitting or standing – at your desk, across from the television, in a studio or workspace – there will also be a Recognition area.

The Recognition area is another great opportunity for metaphorical thinking on how you conceive of yourself. My own desk provides an amusing example of a Recognition area so I’m including a photograph that I took just now, so nothing is doctored up special…this is, apparently, how I see myself at work: There are three Major Arcana cards from three different tarot decks: The High Priestess, The Magician and Justice. There is an image of a letter, a reminder about clear writing, a reminder that I owe it to the world to write, a small thank-you card (because I am SO grateful…for everything), a couple of shamanic references, a couple of references to art and being an artist, a butterfly and a snake (transformation is my middle name), a wolf, my favorite Aura-Soma bottle and a couple of Mother’s Day cards. Behind all that are my most continuously used reference books.

So, see, it isn’t simple…just effective and at least somewhat attractive. Kind of like me. When I sit down to work here, to write, everything in my Recognition area tells me who I am and what I’m doing here (as if I could forget). It’s a thoughtful, potent, powerful – and changing – display. ..for me. Something like this might drive someone else up the wall.  How you see yourself – and how you wish others to see you – is a very personal thing and it needs to resonate with you.
