Feng Shui from the Inside, Out – Day 19

And so we enter into the years of our development where we begin to feel as if we have some control over things totally unaware that our bodies are running on programming that we, in fact, have very little control over. Our strengths and weakness in the area of relationship become apparent when we reach school-age and social interaction with unknown beings becomes a necessary and practically daily event. We learn how to navigate this world in a hit or miss kind of way, figuring out what works…or not, sitting on the fire escape steps watching our classmates play or being one of the players, not even wondering why that kid over there isn’t playing.

Relationship may be the most challenging game of all and we’re all playing all the time, even if we don’t want to be, because we have to. The world is built on series of relationships, some so casual that you might not even call them relationships, but they are. The check-out clerk at the store, the teller in the drive-through window, the person who calls you from the doctor’s office to remind you of your appointment, you have a relationship with all those people, and they with you. And, fleeting though your contact may be with them, the energy around the interactions colors your day.

It’s all about energy…remember?

In a household, the energy of the residents singly and the energy of the residents interacting with each other affects the Feng Shui of the space. Colloquial advice about no arguments at the dinner table and never going to bed angry address that energy because it doesn’t just go away, it gets absorbed; it gets absorbed by the inanimate furnishings of the space, (soft pieces like mattresses and sofas soak up energy as if they were sponges), by the living creatures, and by the people in the space. Children under the age of four are especially vulnerable to this energy as they are still in the time of life when their brains are manufacturing neural connections at a tremendous rate, taking in energetic information as quickly as it is available and helping the cells of the body to form opinions about life…and relationships; because relationships are, after all, the biggest, most important part of a child’s life.
