Feng Shui from the Inside, Out – Day 3
Feng Shui from the Inside Out? Day 3
There’s no way around it: we all have egos. I usually refer to the ego as The Ego Process, that way, it’s more identifiable as what it really is, a function of the mind as it tries to make its way in the world. The Ego Process starts early, probably as soon as we begin to recognize that we have a separate identity, and it continues developing – and changing – throughout life.
It is the recognition of our separateness that requires us to develop an ego because as a child we need to know who – and how – to be with whom, in order to get what we want. This is a critical skill for any child. As children our lives are dependent upon our caretakers and we must learn early how to manipulate our behavior to please these large people who seem to be in charge of our lives.
Those who master the art usually grow up to have a dependable, strong ego process, one that works well for them in that it assists them in getting where they want to go while at the same time not offending – and possibly even assisting – those around them. Those who do not master the skill or who were repeatedly denied or shut down as children tend to fall at the ends of the Ego Process spectrum and become either overbearing or underwhelming. (Something, by the way, that can be neatly handled with Sleep Magic assignments targeted on letting go of whatever led to the current condition.)
