Feng Shui from the Inside, Out – Day 8

The element of Earth is associated with the area of inspiration and connection although it is not the deep, rich soil that yields the abundance of plants that fuel our lives, it is rather, mountain-like earth, hard and craggy, untamed, unplowed, virgin, sometimes challenging life itself. It represents the energy that leads to beginnings, it is the uncracked seed, newly dropped, called to burst forth by forces beyond its own scope or control . Inspiration is, after all, very much like a seed, no more than a thought passing through your mind until you make it real through your own efforts.

Some people, like me, are given to create altar-like spaces where they gather meaningful items together to display them, items that tie them to memories, places, people, and items that connect them to the larger web of existence in some way. These things carry an emotional energy that lends them power, binding the mind, the heart, the soul to what may have been only a fleeting moment, the very stuff of inspiration. The inspiration / connection section of the bagua is an excellent place for such a display, a perfect place to drop anchor while activating the energy of the area as well.

This is the place of what might be called wisdom. I have heard wisdom defined  both as “the heart informing the mind” and “experience merging with intuition.” It is both, I imagine, and more, born of awareness, mass consciousness and a shared, seemingly infinite intelligence that we can never claim as ‘belonging’ to anyone.
