Who we are—and how we define ourselves—is not just mere philosophical musing, but essential to our ideas and values. If we think of ourselves as “machines made of matter in competition with each other for survival,” we behave quite differently than if we think of ourselves as part of consciousness. This is what fascinates me most about Cremo’s work: how our sense of our origins determines our values and our destiny.
