Root Chakra
Color – red
Sanskrit Name – muladhara
Physical Location – base of the spine, 4th sacral vertebra
Area of Body Governed – adrenal glands, skeletal system, the male prostate gland, lower extremities (bones, feet, knees, legs and coccyx)
Nerve plexus- sacral-coccygeal
Purposes – kinesthetic feelings, movement and grounding into physical world
Spiritual Lesson – material world lessons, and “the right to be here
Physical Dysfunctions- lower back pain, bone pain
Mental and Emotional Issues – survival, self-esteem, social order, safety, family issues
Stored Inside Root Chakra – familial beliefs, superstitions, loyalty, instincts

A closer look at physical dysfunctions gives clues about the underlying causes of “dis-ease”.
Skeletal system, bones and joints act as your framework and allow you to express yourself through movement. It ties into foundation issues of safety, trust, belonging and security. Other issues of abuse, insecurity or survival are also linked here. Core beliefs must be examined if experiencing difficulties with bones and joints because it represents conflict with the root theme of “right to be here”.
