Shamans are intermediaries or messengers between the human world and the spirit worlds. Shamanism refers to a range of beliefs and practices, relating with communication and the spirit world. Shamans have been credited with the ability to control the weather, divination, interpretation of dreams, astral projection, and traveling between and to upper and lower worlds. There are many variations in shamanism. Shamans are healers, psychics, and gurus. Among the various archetypes, shamans encompass these: Magician,Weaver,Healer,Priest,and Alchemist. Medicine Man/Woman.

 

The word Shaman means to Know, and holder of Knowledge

 

These are some of the various beliefs and practices that encompass shamanism.

 

-The spirits play important roles in humans, and humanity

-The shaman can control and cooperate with the spirits for the community’s benefit

-The shaman enters supernatural realms or dimensions to obtain solutions to problems afflicting the community and to gather wisdom

-Shamans go into a trance by singing, dancing, meditating,drumming, and taking entheogens

-The shaman can treat illnesses or sickness, and can repair and mend the soul

-The most important object/tool for a shaman is the drum

-Shamanic drumming is used as a vehicle for healing, consciousness expansion, and community building
