Soul Retrieval
As you meet and work with the subpersonalities that live within your inner wilderness, you may sense that part of yourself seems missing. This could feel like emptiness or just a feeling of being incomplete. If some part of yourself is repressed this is called a shadow. If the part is more than repressed – if it seems unknown, missing, or left behind – this is called soul loss. Soul loss is caused by pain or trauma. As a survival mechanism, a part of the self separates to escape the full impact of whatever is happening. In psychological terms this is called dissociation.
Techniques to deal with soul loss differ a little between a shaman and a psychologist. The shaman journeys to a parallel existence in another realm to retrieve the lost soul part. This is called a soul retrieval. The psychologist may try helping a client uncover the lost part from their unconscious with exercises such as free drawing or hypnosis and then integrate the part through a slow process of psychotherapy. The shaman journeying to the parallel universe can help a person find and retrieve a lost soul part much more quickly because they believe the person is already fully healed in another dimension. What is the real difference here? It seems as though the psychologist is limited because the work is limited to three dimensional reality. The shaman can work in multidimensional realities where unlimited possibilities exist.
