Inner World of Yoga – Day 12
Maharishi was a master of the spiritual sound bite. One I will never forget, repeat often to myself and strive to live by is:
“That which you give your attention to grows stronger in your life.”
If you are engaging in activity and thinking that promotes negativity, it will draw more negativity to you. We can see it in our relationships with others, and with ourselves. Think about the cascade of events in your inner and outer life after a negative encounter, and how negative patterns perpetuate in life from one relationship to another. How tired you feel after these encounters. How hopeless getting out of a pattern can seem.
Changing your way of living to a more life-supporting mode is the only sure way to bring positive and lasting change. Change will always happen, one way or another because change is the only constant in life.
Embrace and engage your mind in change. Take your growing ability of “true listening” and apply it to yourself. Listen to how you feel when a negative word or action arises in you. Begin to watch it and become more and more aware of when it is happening. Only when you see it, can you make the CHOICE to use your energy in a positive way, instead of negative. Choose “life supporting” over “non-life supporting” energy, words and action whenever possible.
Use the inner practices of Yoga to build this awareness, this capability within you. Eventually it becomes more and more automatic as your consciousness grows. Your perception of life changes as your inner life changes, and your world around you changes as well – all for the better.
